Version 2010, Build 343 (Initial Release)
There are 5 major and 6 minor changes as well as
programming improvements under the hood in Sendero GPS 2010 as compared with
the 6.2 release. Many of these and other features are unique to Sendero GPS and
some are not even available in commercial GPS products.
Note that the version number has been changed to the
year to reduce confusion between the other products powered by Sendero GPS. GPS Version 2010 will load 2010 maps, not
maps from other years. The last paid upgrade, version 6.0, was released in July
2009.
1. The new Sendero Maps software is provided for use
with a PC for all new purchases of Sendero GPS 2010. Most of the Virtual
Explore mode features available on the BrailleNote are available on the PC for
use with the same maps and points of interest. Users who purchase a new Sendero
GPS after March 23, 2010 will be authorized for Sendero Maps once it is
released. There may be a small charge for those upgrading.
2. New updated 2010 maps and Points of Interest as
well as a new Rich Map engine and a new SQLite database engine. This includes
access to the dozens of transit company databases from the Google Transit Feed.
3. Favorites List: Keep track of your favorite
addresses, POIs, or any location you might use frequently by pressing ENTER
with Dots 2-3-5 on the BT, or CONTROL with 1 on the QT.
4. History List: Up to 25 of your most recent
locations are stored like your initial GPS position, virtual starting position
and destinations set by an Address or POI search. Press ENTER with Dots 2-3-6 on
the BT or CONTROL with READ with H on the QT.
5. Automatic route creation options: Press R
then M
to hear the choices. Then press enter on the item to change and scroll through
the list. Note that the average speed time estimate for a pedestrian route
calculation has changed from 2 MPH to 3 MPH.
5A. Vehicle Routes can
either be fastest time or shortest distance.
5B. Pedestrian routes
can either be shortest distance or fewest turns.
5C. Vehicle Turns can
be set to: Favor right hand turns, favor left hand turns, or fewest turns.
5D. Highways and
Freeways can be set to:
5E. Toll roads can be
set to:
5F. Roundabouts can be
set to:
6. When a route is loaded, you now have several ways
to configure automatic LookAround information. The default is to have only
intersections trigger, no POIs, or changes in street name, city or state. You
can turn all these items on if you wish, however, when a route is being
announced, it is best to limit the amount of LookAround information being
spoken. Press R then M then L for Route Management of
LookAround announcements. Choose current LookAround settings to hear all LookAround
events, i.e. city changes, street changes and POI announcements. This was the
default prior to version 2010. Route announcements only is for no LookAround
information at all. Route and Intersection announcements is the default.
7. POI categories have been consolidated and
improved to be more intuitive. Some
transit POIs might be in Rail or transit stop.
If you cannot find a railway station under railway station, then try using
the subcategory of transit stop.
8. In addition to POI categories, a new Tag system
has been added to provide standard tags or labels for common environmental
information. After entering a POI name and a category, you will be presented
with a Tag list. Press ENTER if you don’t wish any tags. Use
SPACE
with M on the BT or CONTROL with SPACE on the QT to mark
and unmark tags. You can choose as many tags as you like. These tags will be
announced in LookAround mode after the name and category of the POI. Press ENTER
when finished to move to the next level. You will be presented with the Select
additional content prompt. Press ENTER if you wish none.
9. Rich content attached to user points of interest
is now included when those points and files are added to the collective user
POI list. For example, when you add an audio description of an intersection or
a menu for a restaurant to a user point of interest, those items are carried
through the collective user file generation so other users can benefit from your
efforts.
10. Conduct an Exhaustive search automatically for a city or street when it is not
found.
11. Some prompts have been changed. When you acquire
your GPS position, instead of hearing “Acquiring satellites”, you now hear
Searching for satellites. Also, you now receive more information when you
create a route. You can scroll through the details with R then I.

Changes from Sendero GPS Version 6.1 to version 6.2
October 27, 2009
There are 2 major changes and 4 minor changes in
Sendero GPS 6.2. There is no charge for users of version 6.0 or version 6.1 to
upgrade.
1.
Route calculation speed has been
dramatically improved when route mode is set to turns only. There are no longer
individual waypoints within a Turns-only route. You can still hear the
individual waypoints by switching to the detailed route mode. You will see a 5
times or more speed improvement in route calculation in the Turns-only mode.
2.
Route loading and saving speed have also
been improved when route mode is set to turns only.
3.
The route distances, estimated time of
arrival and percentage of route completed are now based on the road speed and
distances designated in the map data. This pertains both to the total route distances
and to the estimates of time to the next turn. Although this is an estimated
time, it should be more consistently in the ballpark than it was previously.
4.
If audio or additional text content is associated
with a point of interest, which will be indicated by a beep when that POI is
announced, you can press a hot key to play back the media. On the BT press ENTER with DOTS 4-5-6 and on
the QT press the slash key. This is the
key above the right arrow.
5.
When editing a user POI, you can set it as
a Destination, Virtual explore position or bring up the POI actions menu.
6.
There are also several small software improvements
to enhance the performance of Sendero GPS.

Changes from Sendero GPS Version 6.0 to version 6.1
September 15, 2009
There is 1 major change and 6 minor changes in
Sendero GPS 6.1. There is no charge for users of version 6.0 to upgrade.
1. POI Media
content is back and even better than before! You can record voice tags for
points of interest. You can also attach audio or Keysoft text files to a point
of interest like a menu or time table. A sound cue will occur when you come
across a POI with media content. See the manual for details on this very
powerful POI media content feature.
2. The build
number of Sendero GPS is announced when you start the program. For example Sendero GPS 6.1 Build 291.
3. The
Sendero SDK version number is now 6.1 matching the BrailleNote version. These
version numbers were previously different creating some confusion.
4. There is a
new sound cue for the Lookaround map change event.
5. There is
an audio logo when GPS is loading.
6. There are
some minor bug fixes under the hood.
7. The
minimum threshold to establish a heading has been increased from 0.5 mph to 0.9
mph. This should improve GPS headings among tall buildings.
