1. Important things to know:

** Maps and POIs

*Maps and routes are located in a SenderoMaps folder within your Documents folder.  Scroll to the SenderoMaps folder and open it.  You will find five folders, installs, maps, Routes, Settings and SharedPOIs.  Copy the maps in the Maps folder.  By default any routes you save are placed within the routes folder.  Settings for Sendero Maps are located within the Settings folder.  The Settings folder is created the first time you start SenderoMaps.

 * Map and POI data, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 commercial data files will not work with Sendero Maps 2015.

* The commercial Points of Interest for your state are located on the memory card supplied with your new Sendero Maps package along with the maps in the Maps folder. Important documents are in their respective folders. The commercial POI file names begin with the numbers 2015. Extra POI files for version 2015 are now located in your account. The map files are in the Maps folder beginning with the state name. If maps or POIs do not appear when you load the program, go to the File menu then select Map and POI folder to point to the relevant Map/POI folder. Make sure you have purchased a license for the maps you are trying to load.  If you have a license for North America only, the UK maps or POIs will not load for example.  If you purchase a new map bundle, it is necessary to select "register Product or new Map from the HELP menu.  Note: you must have an internet connection to activate your license or new maps.

* For the 15 states that have more than one section, like California with 6 sections or Florida with 4, you must load the file with the .CDB extension along with the single file for the state section you wish to use. If for some reason you wish to only have Northern California loaded, you would need to put the 1 file section for California-4.rmf plus the .CDB file in the maps folder plus any POI files you need like 2015_POI_California.pdb.  For each PDB file you will find an associated RMF file.  Make sure you copy both sets of files.

  • It is slower to synchronize maps and POIs directly to the Sense device, however when updating Sense Navigation it is recommended to connect the Sense directly to the computer to make the installation go smooth.

  • * When Sendero Maps loads, it opens every POI file from the active map folder. There is a known bug where a point of interest may be overlooked when there are millions of points loaded. The work around is to try moving your virtual search position or by reducing the number of POI files loaded. You may wish to have one primary maps folder with your local state maps and POIs loaded and a second folder with the rest of the country. Since Sendero organizes the maps by region and they can be downloaded or purchased this way, this is the recommended approach.

* When you login to your account at http://www.GoSendero.com, you are able to see the states, regions or countries included in each zip file. The entire U.S. maps and POIs total around 15 GB of data.

* If you copy a user.pdb from Sendero GPS 6.2 or Mobile Geo 2.5 your user.pdb (user created POIs) will automatically be upgraded to the new 2015 new POI category scheme.  This will happen automatically the first time you run Sendero Maps 2015.  The only side effect will be if you created a POI and put it in any category other than user private it will be changed to user private after this conversion has taken place.  If you want your original categories, you will have to go and re-categorize your user POIs.  You can copy your Sendero Maps user.pdb file or favorites.fdb file to your PDA only if it also uses Sendero GPS/SDK 2015.

* User submitted POI files are available as free downloads from within the check for updates feature. These files have a .PDB extension just like the commercial POI files. If the user places the POI in the correct category IE restaurant, you could search on either the restaurant or user categories to find the POI.  It is a good idea to check the POI Author name to see if the POI is commercial or created by a user.

* When adding media content to POIs it is recommended to only add to user POIs because commercial POIs will be updated in the future and you will lose the media content and any other changes you made.

* If you cannot find a railway station under railway station, then try using the subcategory of transit stop.

** Routes

* Creating long routes with the options “Fewest Turns” or “Shortest Distance” will work fine on the computer but still may take a while to calculate.

* Like the POI converter, users will need to convert all of the 4.x and below routes into the 2015 route format.  The route files end with a .rte extension and they are XML files.    Sendero GPS version 5.0 and later routes will work under Sendero Maps 2015 with no conversion necessary.

** Virtual Mode

* You should close a virtual route before setting a new virtual position. When following a route in virtual mode and you set your virtual position to some other location before closing your route and then move forward, your virtual position will move to the next waypoint along the route.  You can return to the location you previously entered by closing your route and using the undo command K.  You will be returned to your previous virtual position.

** GPS Mode

* GPS Mode will be available if you have purchased the Sendero PC GPS product and there will be a new menu item called “GPS”

* It is recommended to exit Sendero PC GPS before turning off your Bluetooth receiver.

* The Sendero GPS software indicates when it receives the extra WAAS signal in the U.S. and Canada. The European version of WAAS is called EGNOS.

** Miscellaneous

* In order for Sendero Maps to automatically speak events such as moving forward, make sure your supported screen reader is running before starting Sendero Maps.  Currently the supported screen readers are JAWS for Windows™, Window-Eyes™, System Access™, Hal™/SuperNova and NVDA.

* It is not recommended to use the Virtualized window command in JAWS as this could cause the system to crash.

* After uninstalling Sendero Maps from your computer, your maps, favorites, history  and POIs are not automatically removed.  If you wish to remove the user data, remove the "SenderoMaps" folder under your Documents folder.

* In the UK and Australia you no longer need to have street name descriptions set to long in order to hear the common name of the street you are on, and you can use the default "Short" street names. Note: the detailed city command gives both the short and long street names no matter what you have the Street Name set to.

2. Known Issues

** Maps and POIs

* POIs like restaurants may be included in the Bonus category using the “All” category option will give access to the restaurants in this situation. Remember that these maps and POIs will not work with versions prior to 2015.

* The indexing of some towns in the map data may require a round about way of finding an address match. It is best to assume a town is in the database and to use the suggestions in the users guide to find a means of pulling that town up if you don’t find it using a normal Address Look Up. In London for example, some addresses must be matched by putting in the council name rather than London as the city name. Medium to large cities may also be in the Points of Interest database and you can place your virtual position in the vicinity of a city by doing a POI search in this way.

* There may be some issues finding an address match for a freeway that switches names. For example, US 131 may change to US-131 or US/131, even though it is the same street.

* When searching for a city or street which contains an accented character, it is necessary to enter that character exactly in order to find the match.

* There are occasional streets which split off in multiple directions with the same name. This may happen at a Y in a road or at a roundabout or intersection with an unusual island. The result might be the announcement of a street being ahead, behind and to the left or right, all at the same time.

* When doing an address match, it is best, but not always necessary, to enter the street name without a prefix like Northwest or a suffix like Avenue. You will receive a list of options once the matches are found. In Portland Oregon, it is necessary to enter the prefix before numbered streets, for example, SE 12th. If you just put in 12th, no match will be made. Add the two-letter abbreviation before 12th, and it works. This is the exception to the rule however.

* In Wisconsin a small number of alpha/numeric address ranges are incorrectly reported which prevents exact address matching.  TeleAtlas has acknowledged this is their issue and is working on a solution.

** Routes

* Vehicle routes can now be created into and out of gated communities but in order to facilitate this we no longer take into account vehicle turn restrictions into these gated communities.  This may result in a route created through one of these communities instead of around it.

* If you are operating in a route and change to a new destination, strange things may happen to the original route. It is recommended that you calculate a new route if you establish a new destination.

* If you are unable to create a route, either your starting location or destination could be on a non-navigable Terminal street. Try finding a street nearby which is non-terminal and create the route from that point.

* There is no distance limit placed on route calculations. However, there is a limit of 10,000 route waypoints.
