                             Q-80 Disk Utility 1.0a

                           (C) 1994 Paul Vercellotti

Purpose:

This program allows diskettes from the Kawai Q-80 sequencer to be
manipulated on a PC with a 3 1/2 inch disk drive. Files can be copied to and
from the Q-80 disk, and you can list the directory and delete files from the
Q-80 disk. This is useful for backing up sequences, or sending a song to
another Q-80 owner via modem or BBS. Requires a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive and a
286 or better processor. Only works on diskettes formatted by a Q-80. If you
have a Q-80EX, then you don't need this program - you can already transfer
files to a PC.

How to use:

At the DOS command line, type

Q80UTIL <drive>

where <drive> is the letter of the floppy drive where the program can find the
Q-80 disk. The program will first read the disk's directory and file
structure, then you can manipulate the disk. The main menu is displayed, and
the following commands are available:

Key Function
--- --------
L (L)ists the files on the disk, along with their type and size, and
     displays statistics about the disk.

T Copies file(s) from the PC (T)o the Q-80 disk. DOS wildcards may be
specified. A file with the extension .SNG will default to a song, and
.DAT to data. The type must be specified for other extensions. When asked
"Save as ...?", you can accept the suggested filename with 'Y'; 'N'
allows you to specify a different filename; and 'A' will cause the
default name to be used for all subsequent files (as long as they end in
SNG or DAT); If you reply 'N', you will be prompted for a different name
to save as. Note that this save name is case sensitive.

F Copies file(s) (F)rom the Q-80 disk to the PC. A wildcard character
('*') may be used for multiple file specification. The search is not
case sensitive. For example, to copy all the data files on your Q-80
disk beginning with "FR", you would type "FR*" for the file name, and
press 'D' to copy only data files. The default save name can be used for
all files if 'A' is pressed when asked "Save as ...?".

D This deletes a file or files from the Q-80 disk. Wildcards may be used
and the search is not case sensitive. A reply of 'A' to the "Delete ...?"
question will delete all matching files.

H Displays a help screen with the available commands.

 X Exits the program.

Warning: Do not change the disk while the program is running. To manipulate a
new disk, exit the program, insert the new disk, and restart Q80Util.
Inserting a new disk while the program is running, then performing a disk
operation on it can wipe out all of the disk's contents.
