MIDIfiles for guitarists!

"Summer Song" by Joe Satriani
From the album "The Extremist"
Sequenced by Cesare Tirabassi

Here is my MIDI (Cakewalk 3.0) version, that can be used as a back-up band for
lone or practicing guitarists. The file should be fully GM/GS compatible, at
least it plays perfectly on my Roland SC-55.
The sequence is arranged with the following instruments:

Ch. 1 - 3 : Guitar harmonics. Ch. 2-3 are delayed and panned versions of ch. 1
Ch. 4 - 5 : E. Guitar Rhythm. The channels are panned with a little delay to
give some spaciousness. The tracks are velocity encoded. If you
have some other module or keyboard apart a GS/GM synth, assign a
patch to be played for velocity below or equal to 100 and another
to be played for velocity above 100. The former should be a "muted"
type of e. guitar, and the latter a normal e. guitar. I use myself
a Roland U-110, with the e. guitar expansion card.
Ch. 7 - 8 : Bass Guitar. Two different patches are assigned, to fatten a bit
the lousy SC-55 samples. One (fretless) give some body to the
sound, while the other (slap) some dynamic.
Ch. 10 : Drums. A "Power" patch is assigned. I'm not totally happy with it,
and I use myself the U-110 with the Drums expansion card. I route
the snare thru a keyboard mixer and fatten it with some gated
	    reverb to get better results.
Ch. 15 : Sysex. If you have a SC-55, look at its display ... otherwise it
just send a GS reset message.

The sequence is free, and can be copied to friends, colleagues and even
enemies ;-).
All I ask is to keep this text file with it and maintain it as a cakewalk file.
I would appreciate it if you have any feedback, even more if you make any
improvement to the sequence and you can email me the improved version :-).
My email is:

ctirabas@vmprofs.estec.esa.nl or
ctirabas@bitnet.estec

ctirabas@estec.esa.nl should work as well.

Have fun, and keep on strumming!

Cesare
