	NOTES ON THE PROGRAMME ED_SC55

1       INTRODUCTION

	The ED_SC55 is an editor mainly designed for the Roland Sound Canvas 
	SC-55.

	It allows users to change easily all sound parameters (volume, pan, 
	reverber,...) of all voices generated by the module.
	Changes done can be stored ed recalled later by pressing only one key.

	The software has been designed giving particular attention to the 
	requirements of practicality and easiness of use.

	The present version V 1.0 is freeware.
	Users are invited to register and to send comments, or to notify of 
	any software matter they could find.

	The author does not assume any responsability of any damage that can 
	arise from this programme.

2       HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

	- PC IBM compatible;
	- microprocessor from 80386;
	- minimum conventional memory amount 400 kbytes;
	- MIDI interface MPU-401 or compatible;
	- VGA (S-VGA);
	- two buttons mouse;
	- MS-DOS from 6.0:

3       CONNECTIONS

	The MIDI interface connector MIDI OUT has to be connected to one of 
	the two MIDI IN of the Sound Canvas. The other goes to the MIDI OUT 
	connector of a keyboard or similar MIDI instrument.

4       SCREEN PRESENTATION

	Initial.

	Four main areas are shown: 
	- Title Bar;
	  - Name of the file (NAMEFILE.STT) and Setting currently opened;
	- Menu Bar;
	  - File;
	    - New File:  creation of a new file;
	    - Open File: opening of an existing file;
	    - Save:      saving of the current file;
	    - Save As:   saving of the current file with a new name;
	    - Close:     closing of the current file;
	    - Exit:      closing of the current file and exiting from the 
			 programme;
	  - Options
	    - Address:   setting of the MIDI interface base address;
	    - Colours:   customizing of colours;
	- Main area;
	  - After the opening of a file (.STT) shows bars, buttons, controls 
	    and tables for the I/O operations with the Sound Canvas;
	- Status bar;
	  - Name and version of the programme, name of the author.

	After opening of a file.

	- Bar All:
	  - Volume:      for all Parts the values of Volume, Instrument, Pan, 
			 Reverber, Chorus, Key Shift, MIDI Channel;
	  - Master:      global parameters Master Volume, Master Pan, etc.;
	  - Settings:    table showing the names of the Settings recorded in 
			 the current file;
	  - Send:        to send the SC-55 all parameters held into the 
			 current Setting;
	  - GS Reset:    initialization of the SC-55 with the default values;
	  - GM On:       to send the command General MIDI On;
	- Bar Part:
	  - Part selection. To show the values of all sound parameters of 
			 that Part.

5       RUNNING THE PROGRAMME

	After the extraction of the files, included in ED_SC55.ZIP in a 
	suitable directory, type ED_SC55. Be sure that the mouse is already 
	running and Num Lock is off. 
	Choose Options and select the MIDI Interface base address (normally 
	330 hex).

6       CHANGING VALUES OF PARAMETERS

	The selection/modification of parameters shown in the current page 
	can be realized by:
	- Mouse. To be used on sliding buttons and on display. Left/right 
		 button to decrease/increase the value. While the value is 
		 decreasing/increasing the speed of variation can be 
		 augmented by 10 by pressing down the right/left button.
	- Keys.  Enter, left/right/up/down arrows, alphabetical /numerical 
		 characters.

7       SETTINGS
	
	A Setting is made up by all the parameters of SC-55; that is by all 
	values of all parameters of each voice for each Part, in addition to 
	global ones (Master Volume, etc.).
	A maximum of twenty Settings can be stored in each .STT file.
	The Setting STANDARD SETTING refers to default values of SC-55.
	The choice of a Setting can be realized both through the mouse or 
	Page up/Page down/Arrow up/Arrow down buttons.
	An alphabetical/numerical character can be associated to a Setting by 
	typing it in the box left to the description of Setting itself (take 
	the mouse into the box and click on it).
	Typing the character all parameters of that Setting are transmitted 
	to the SC-55.
	The selected Setting can be also transmitted by pressing either Enter 
	or the button Send.
	To modify the description of a selected Setting click on it with the 
	mouse left button.
	To create, copy or delete a Setting use the relevant button.

8       TEMPORARY FILES

	The file ED_SC55.INI is created in c:\. It stores all customized and 
	initialization information.
	During the esecution of the programme the following files are created 
	and then deleted in the c:\ directory: ~~~FILET.TMP, ~~~FILES.TMP, 
	~~~DIRS.TMP.
