This file is a preliminary version intended for downloading by
the next participant, who will subsequently produce version 2.
Each version will add a new track or replace a "scratch" track
in the associated MIDI data file (currently GJBLUES1.MID). At
version 7, the initiating author will perform a final "production
mix" to create the final finished piece. The final version is
planned to be GJBLUES8.

Basic Structure
--------
This is not very far removed from straight Delta style blues.
It has the standard 12-bar chord structure in G as follows:
-G7------------------C7--------G7--------D7---C7---G7--------
|////|////|////|////|////|////|////|////|////|////|////|////|
There's a 4-bar lead-in (sticks, drums, bass, guitar) before the
actual 12-bar pattern begins, so bars 1-4 are just lead-in.
The first chorus (5-16) has an improvised melody statement using
a solo alto sax. A 2nd alto comes in at the end to jump the lead
up an octave for the second chorus (17-28). After that the altos
drop to doing echo fills for four choruses (29-76). This is where
the additional instruments solo. In the final chorus (77-88) the
altos restate the melody in simple harmony in the lower range--
leaving the upper ranges for the added instruments.

Version 1 Notes
----------
The initial guitar and percussion tracks are "scratch" tracks.
We need something to hold the rhymic and chord patterns, but they
should be replaced by one of the jammers in a later revision.
Because blues tends to wander between major and minor keys, the
initial "scratch" guitar part is set up with no thirds. If you
replace this track, remember to also replace bar 4 in the lead-in.
[Edit this section for each following version.]
----------
MIDI Information
----------
The initial version uses simple assignments:
Track 1: Channel 1, Alto Saxes-GM#65
Track 2: Channel 2, Fretless Bass-GM#35
Track 3: Channel 3, Steel Guitar-GM#25 (Scratch track)
Track 4: Channel 4, To be added
Track 5: Channel 5, To be added
Track 6: Channel 6, To be added
Track 7: Channel 7, To be added
Track 8: Channel 10, Percussion (Scratch track)
----------
Tracks 4-7 have a tiny note in the count-in measure to keep the track
from being dropped when the file is saved. The percussion track was
split to avoid Session's 64K track limit. The instrument assignments
and notes in tracks 4-7 are just place-holders. Replace them with
the proper assignment and credit notes whn you add a track.
----------
Revision Information
----------
The intention is to go through six revisions, completing the jam
at version 7. One final "production mix" step should result in
the absolute final version 8 (GJBLUES8.MID). The intended
revisions are four to add additional instrument tracks, and two
others to replace the "scratch" tracks (Percussion and Guitar).
There is no plan to replace the simple bass line, since that's part
of the Delta Blues style, but if a participant wishes to do so as
part of one of the revisions, feel free as long as the whole piece
retains the basic style.
Remember to notify the originator (wadleigh@process.com) when you
begin working on a revision. There may already be someone working
on that same revision number and you need to coordinate.
