<<Gort's-DoubleDecker>> a Soundfont for the Soundblaster Live

This soundfont, along with all my others so far, does not work on Audigy cards, I've tried them and they make all sorts of wrong noises. It's been designed to work on a Soundblaster Live and if you can get it to work on anything else, then that's a bonus. The new Audigy is a different Soundcard with a different chip and different everything else, so it's not surprising.

So . . . there are lots more Synth sounds and oddball timbres, and another helping of 'sounds for all occasions' in this little butterfly bun - maybe you want to re-live those glory days of bleach-streaked hair and feather cuts, jackets that didn't fit, one-fingered synth heroes and reverb units set on 18 seconds, maybe you're doing sound-effects for an underwater TV series, - or maybe your lobotomy went wrong - but whatever you want, I'm sure there's something in here that'll dolly up the sounds you need. To make it a bit easier I've combined similar sounds into groups of 8 - more or less.

For most of the time it was being made I was going to call this Soundfont "Gort's-SBD" - not after the "Silent-But-Deadly" - a type of body gas that has amused English schoolboys for untold ages, but because the author is aware that all his more recent Soundfonts are "Similar-But-Different" - yes, he knows that he is going over the same ground. Some voices will be entirely novel, but others are clearly "alike unto others". But it seemed to the author that "Gort's-DoubleDecker" would be less likely to attract juvenile and unreflective comments. Especially from himself. So it has ended up with this title because it eventually took up 2 layers of the Soundfont banks, which is a rather unexciting way to go about your business, it has to be admitted.

For those of you who have previously made comments - first of all thanks to those who have e-mailed me with a note of appreciation - this is my payment, (or as close to payment as I'm likely to get, methinks). The author is aware of the limitations extremely small Soundfont sizes impose, but in the past he has drummed his fingers for aeons downloading a 7 meg piano soundfont only to find it's awful, and other similar disasters, and the benefits of almost instant downloads to gain a massive cache of sounds is much more apealling to his way of thinking. They're not all gonna hit the spot, I know, but some might be just what you're looking for.

As I've said before, I've already made more ChineseBanjos than the world will ever need, and I'm sure there's plenty of SpaceFlutes for anything you might think of - even for that strange man in Huddersfield. But in this one as in all the others, I've tried to offer something which I believe might suit other musicians, even though I wouldn't find a use in my own recordings for those sounds myself.

Why do I do it? I enjoy experimenting with sounds, and I save all my messing about. Nothing more to it than that. And - hoping to throttle off any potential squawking from those with possible personality defects, - remember you get 'em for free.

This soundfont may not be sold or included in any commercial transaction, wholly or in part, or re-constructed in any way, but feel free to use the sounds in any musical recordings.

And again, I hope there's something in here that helps you get what you want from your music.

Lovebeams
Gort
