UPDATE_info

On older SB_Live cards, these Soundfonts looped perfectly. However on newer cards/Operating Systems, some of the loops have gone wrong. The loop points were there, they were designated, but they were completely ignored, and the samples looped from the very beginning of the sample to the very end, not the designated loop points, and that made those sounds unuseable.

These updates put that right. Some of the sounds - such as Pianos - have been altered, perhaps improved, and there are some extra sounds in some of the SoundFonts.

None of these soundfonts is intended to be a GM set, in fact they're offered as Antidotes to the GM set, although some have sounds grouped in 8's to simplify things. On my 5-octave keyboard all the voices seem to be in tune OK, but beyond that 5 octaves I've hardly checked. If this were a commercial venture I'd put the time in to make sure, but as it's free you can sit there and blubber if some of the very highest notes go wobbly.

I realize that nowadays there are some very impressive VST-instruments, and in depth of sound these tiny soundfonts have limitations and can't compete with the top-end VST-i's, but I hope there are some people who still find these Soundfonts useful. They have the advantage of being free, for a start, there's a wide variety of different sounds, and they have very low latency using the drivers Creative supply you with, which doesn't happen when recording with VST-i's. (These Soundfonts don't work at all well with kx-drivers, by the way, kx drivers appear to be devoted to improving latency for using VST-instruments, and have all sorts of problems when handling Soundfonts, especially those with filters such as mine. The kx-drivers are excellent, however, with VST-i's, though they do write stuff all over the place which doesn't un-install, and some users consider them to be a nightmare to work with.)

If you find this Soundfont useful, I'd appreciate a message at shirtnumber8@hotmail.com to let me know there was some point to it all. (I'm that typically British thing, the plucky amateur, but there's limits to my pluck.)

This soundfont may not be sold or included in any commercial transaction, wholly or in part, or re-constructed in any way, but feel free to use the sounds in any musical venture.

Have fun
Gort
