<< Gort's Synth.sf2 >> UPDATED

#1# This is emphatically not a GM set, but for ease of use when you want to locate a particular sound, I felt compelled to make this a Soundfont where everything was grouped together in something like the dreaded GM layout. Unfortunately that places most of the interesting voices at the end, so I took liberties with it. I've tried to combine variety and playability, so that most of the sounds would be musically useful rather than "weird and wonderful".

#2# On my 5-octave keyboard all the voices seem to be in tune OK, but beyond that 5 octaves I've hardly checked. If this were a commercial venture I'd put the time in to make sure, but I've had enough of it now, and as it's free you can sit there and blubber if it isn't. (You'd probably never want to use those notes anyway.)

#3# There's also lots of extra instruments in the 2nd. layer, starting with plenty of Pianos, a good selection of Organs, then Basses and "miscellaneous". There's 213 instruments (melodic presets as Creative call them) in both layers, but no drums. While updating I decided to "improve" the Pianos, Organs and Saxes - they sound more "authentic" now, whether you think that's a good thing or a bad thing is another matter. And there's some new sounds (melodic presets) in the second layer - including a few that'll blow some speakers apart.

#4# If you find this Soundfont useful, I'd appreciate a message at shirtnumber8@hotmail.com to let me know there was some point to it all. (I'm that typically British thing, the plucky amateur, but there's limits to my pluck.)

This soundfont may not be sold or included in any commercial transaction, wholly or in part, or re-constructed in any way, but feel free to use the sounds in any musical venture.

This is free, and I hope you can make good use of it. No animals were seriously harmed during the making of this Soundfont, but several trees were hugged - though not in an intimidating way. Still didn't get the right numbers on the Lottery.

Have fun
