Creating a User Dictionary (UNIX)

DECtalk Software comes with two dictionary applets. Both help the user to create their own user dictionary which can be loaded at startup time or while the text-to-speech system is active.

Application	Location	Comments
userdict	/usr/ucb/userdict	Compiles a user dictionary from a file containing both the word and its phonemic pronunciation.
windict	/usr/ucb/windict	Application that has a graphical user interface and can: Pronounce words Translate words into their phonemic symbols Compile a user dictionary from a list of words and their phonemic symbols
