The Utilities Menu.11.1 Overview. The Utilities Menu provides several important extensions of KeySoft's capabilities. It is entered by pressing U from the Main Menu. The operations available are as follows:Pronunciation Dictionary, which allows the pronunciation of unusual words to be corrected.
Application Programs, which allows optional KeySoft software to be run.

The pronunciation accuracy of KeySoft is 'superior to most voice output products available today, but if it (badly mispronounces your name or technical words you use often, )you may wish to correct this by adding a suitably misspelled *version of such words to the pronunciation dictionary.+,This is done by entering the correct spelling of the word together with a suitable misspelling. Before speaking a word, KeySoft searches the pronunciation dictionary and if it finds the word, the misspelled version is spoken instead. Commands are provided to add, delete and change words in the pronunciation dictionary.Several pronunciation dictionaries may be kept on disk, and retrieved or saved when required.

It does this by making the disk drives and parallel ports on one machine appear as if they belong to the other. This is called redirection. Suppose that you are running KeySoft on a computer called PC1, !which has two floppy drives and a hard drive. Also suppose that "you have access to a second computer, called PC2, which has #similar disk drives. By using the Interlink option, it can $appear that PC1 has its own three drives, A, B and C, and also %three extra drives, called D, E and F, which are the redirected &drives of PC2. You can then access files that reside on D, E, or 'F as if they were stored in PC1.()As well as redirecting disk drives, Interlink also redirects *parallel ports. For example, Interlink can redirect parallel +port 1 on PC2 to become parallel port 2 on PC1. If you use the ,Printer Setup List as described in section 5.5 to select parallel -port 2, you can print a KeySoft document on a printer attached to .a PC2. To distinguish the direction of transfer, the words "client" and "server" are used. The client computer appears to have additional drives, and can operate normally. The server allows access to its drives, but cannot perform any other task meantime. In the previous examples, PC1 was the client and PC2 was the server. The two prerequisites for running Interlink are: 1.Both computers must be using MS-DOS version 6.0 or later.
2.The "client" computer must have the line: "device=c:\dos\interlnk.exe", or similar, in its config.sys
file. You may need expert assistance if the drive assignment on either computer is non-standard.11.4.2 Connection. You may connect your computer to PC2 through their serial ports. You will need a cable called a "null modem" cable, with either a 9-way or 25-way female connector on each end to suit each computer's serial port. A minimum of 3 wires are required in this cable. Plug one end into the serial port of your computer, and plug the other end into serial port 1 or 2 of PC2.Note that Interlink will redirect parallel ports, even though the connection is being made through serial ports, If a serial port is not available on each machine, you may connect through parallel ports. In this case you will need a parallel port cable with two 25-pin male connectors. Plug one end into the parallel port of your computer, and the other into parallel port 1 or 2 on PC2.!"11.4.3 Your Computer as a Client.#$To access the files on PC2 from your computer, PC2 must first %become a server by running a program called "intersvr", which is &part of MS-DOS version 6.0 or later. There are two ways of doing 'this, depending on whether you are running KeySoft on PC2.()If KeySoft is running on PC2, go to the Utilities menu and press *"I", or use RIGHT ARROW to select "Interlink" and press ENTER. +You will be asked:,- "Become an Interlink Server or Client?"./Press "S", and KeySoft will say: "To exit INTERSERVE, press READ 0with F4".12Speech will cease. If you are running KeySoft in a DOS box under Windows, a screen message will advise you to press ENTER to continue, or F3 to quit. PC2 is now an Interlink server, and the screen will display information about redirected drives and ports. PC2 cannot be used for any other purpose, and will only respond to READ with F4 to terminate the session. The alternative case is when KeySoft is not running on PC2. If MasterTouch is running, you should turn it off by running MTOFF. Then, at the DOS prompt, type: "intersvr" and press ENTER. This
will cause PC2 to become an Interlink server, as just described. Back at your computer, from the KeySoft Utilities Menu press "I", or use RIGHT ARROW to select "Interlink" and press ENTER. You
will be asked: "Become an Interlink Server or Client?"To make your computer a client, press "C". KeySoft should say: "Link established",and you will be returned to the Utilities Menu. If this message is not obtained, check the cable connection, and ensure that the config.sys file on your computer has been modified as previously described. If the link is established, the disk drives of PC2 will now appear as extra drives on your computer. Floppy drive "A" on PC2 will become drive "D", floppy drive "B" will become "E", hard drive "C" will become "F", and so on up to a maximum of eight redirected drives. At a KeySoft filename prompt you may use CONTROL with D to select any of these drives and their files. You may also use the MS-DOS option to issue a DOS command such as !"dir" or "copy". From the Utilities menu you may start an "application program on a redirected drive; this will run on your #computer.$%There are some restrictions on redirected drives. Certain DOS &commands, notably "format", "chkdsk" and "undelete", are not 'available. It is not possible to redirect a CD-ROM drive or a (network drive. If the server has Windows and a serial mouse, or )for more detailed information, please refer to MS-DOS 6 on-line *help or the User's Guide.+,To break the connection between the computers, stop the server by -pressing ALT with F4 on the keyboard of PC2. If you entered the .Interlink server mode from KeySoft, you will be returned to the /Main Menu. You do not need to take any additional action at your 0computer.1211.4.4 Your Computer as a Server. The Interlink option also allows the files on your machine to be accessed from PC2. The prerequisites are DOS 6.0 on both machines, and the appropriate line in the config.sys file of PC2. At your computer, from the KeySoft Utilities Menu press "I", or use RIGHT ARROW to select "Interlink" and press ENTER. You will be asked: "Become an Interlink Server or Client?"
To make your computer a server, press "S". KeySoft will say: "To exit INTERSERVE, press READ with F4".
Speech will cease. If you are running KeySoft in a DOS box under Windows, a screen message will advise you to press ENTER to continue, or F3 to quit. Your computer is now an Interlink server, and the screen will display information about redirected drives and ports. PC2 cannot be used for any other purpose, and will only respond to READ with F4 to terminate the session. You may now use PC2 to access the files on your computer's drives. PC2 may be in MS-DOS with a screen reader such as MasterTouch, or it may be running another copy of KeySoft. Whatever your method, PC2 will appear to have additional drives, which are the redirected drives of your computer. To end the session, press READ with F4 on your computer, and you will be returned to the KeySoft Main Menu.11.5 Other File Transfers. Documents may be transferred via the Serial Port from another !computer to yours, or vice-versa, using the Other File Transfers "option.
