Printing A Document.5.1 Overview.Documents written with KeyWord may be printed. A printer driver, appropriate to the printer, ensures that attributes such as bold, underline, and italics, are handled correctly. KeySoft supports both serial and parallel printers.	5.2 The Print Option.
To print a document, select the "Print a File" option from the KeyWord Menu.
KeySoft prompts: "Print or Set Up?"The Print option leads to a series of prompts to select and print a file. The Set Up option lets you match Keynote to the printer.5.3 Printing a Document. At the "Print or Set Up?" prompt, press "P" if you wish to print a document. KeySoft prompts: "File name?Select the required file, then press ENTER. If a file from a different directory is required, press CONTROL with D, and reply to the prompts for drive, directory and file name. KeySoft prompts: "Printer Ready?" Press Y, (for Yes), if you want to print just one copy of the !whole document. The document will then be printed, and you will "then be returned to the KeyWord menu.#$Press N, (for No), at the "Printer Ready?" prompt if you want to %change any of the three printing options.&' KeySoft prompts: "Start page number? Currently first page"()Enter the page number to start printing from, and press ENTER. *The default setting is the first page. To check the page number +range for the document, press the HELP key.,- KeySoft prompts: "Finish page number? Currently last page"Enter the page number to finish printing at and press ENTER. The default setting is the last page.KeySoft prompts: "Number of copies? KeySoft prompts: "Printer Ready?"Press Y to proceed and print the file. The printer should start
immediately. If you need to pause the printing at any time, press the SPACE bar. KeySoft will announce: "Printing Paused". To restart printing, press the SPACE bar again. If you press ESCAPE while printing is paused, printing will be abandoned and you will be returned to the KeyWord menu. Before printing the first document after switching on your computer, it is a good idea to turn the printer off, then on again at the "Printer Ready?" prompt. This clears the printer's memory and avoids spurious characters at the top of the page.If a serial printer prints random characters or nothing at all, the communications parameters are wrongly set. These can be changed from the Printer Set Up List. This list is explained in Section 5.5.5.4 Printing a Group of Documents. !You may wish to print all files with a certain group of "characters in the filename. To accomplish this, wild card #characters can be included in the filename. (Refer to Section $4.8 for details of wild card use.) As an example, entering the %filename "NOTES?" would cause all the following three files to be &printed:'(NOTES1)NOTES2*NOTES3+,There is another way to specify a group of files, if you have -grouped similar files in a sub-directory. For instance, if the .previous files had been grouped in a directory called LECTURE, /they could all be printed by selecting this directory at the 0"Directory Name?" prompt, then entering the filename *.125.5 The Printer Set-Up List. This is a list of parameters which defines the interface to be used for printing, certain layout options, and the selection of a particular printer model. If you plan to use a printer with a serial interface, you will need to know its serial communications parameters before completing the setup.Press S at the "Print or Set-Up?" prompt to make changes to printer settings.
      KeySoft prompts: "Printer Set-Up List"
The Printer Set-Up List is a list of printer settings arranged like a menu. You can move along the list with the RIGHT ARROW or back with the LEFT ARROW. You can change settings by entering an appropriate new setting and pressing ENTER. Pressing an ARROW key without entering a new value leaves the original value unchanged, and moves to the next.Press the RIGHT ARROW key. KeySoft prompts: "Printer Port? Currently (parallel 1)"The options here are P to select the parallel printer port, or S for the serial port, followed by the port number.5.5.1 Parallel Printer Option. If you plan to use a printer connected to a parallel interface on your computer, type "P" at the "Printer port?" prompt, followed by the port number, and then press ENTER. For example, type "P1" to select LPT1. Valid port numbers are 1, 2, 3, and 4. The !number may represent a physical port on your computer, a network "printer, or a printer attached to another computer and accessed #through Interlink, as described in Chapter 11.$%To leave the printer port unchanged, press RIGHT ARROW to move &on.'( KeySoft prompts: "Page Offset? Currently (8)")*This defines the position of the left margin of the printing in +columns from the left edge of the paper. It is like an overall ,left margin which affects all printing. The default setting is -8. Values from 1 to 50 are allowable. A value of 10 corresponds .to 1 inch./0Enter a new value and press ENTER or press RIGHT ARROW key to 1move on.2 KeySoft prompts: "Pause after each page? Currently (on)"Options here are N to turn pause on or F to turn it off. Select N if you are printing on single sheets. This causes printing to pause at the end of each page. You must then press ENTER when you have changed the paper. Select F if your printer has a paper bin, or you are using continuous fan-fold paper.Enter a new setting and press ENTER, or press RIGHT ARROW to move on.
KeySoft prompts: "Printer type currently (standard). Change?"
At this point you may either choose to retain the currently selected printer driver, or select another driver from the available list. Press RIGHT ARROW if you don't wish to change the Printer Type. KeySoft prompts: "End of List"You can use the LEFT ARROW key to move back along the list to check all values. Press ESCAPE key when you have finished reviewing the printer settings. If you have made changes, KeySoft prompts: "Confirm changes?"Press Y to confirm you wish to adopt the new settings or press N to revert to the original settings. KeySoft prompts: "Print or Set-Up?" Refer now to Section 5.3.!"If you do wish to change the printer type, at the prompt: #"Printer type currently (standard). Printer Type files are included in the sub-directory titled "c:\keynote\printers". KeySoft prompts: "End of List"The printer type selection determines how the type style commands embedded in your text will be translated for the printer. The
"standard" option is programmed into KeySoft and this option is suitable for virtually any printer if you do not require any special type styles.
KeySoft includes translation programs for a range of popular printers. Appendix C contains a list of printers supported. If you have a printer model which is not included with KeySoft, there is still a good chance of it printing special type styles correctly if you load the Epson Enhanced driver, as many printer models are compatible with this. After completing the changes, you can use LEFT ARROW to move back along the list to check all values. Press ESCAPE when you have finished reviewing the printer settings.
