                    INSTALLING of VOXPARLE

    This file explains the different steps to carry out to
install VOXPARLE on to your hard disk.

    1. Insert the diskette called VOXPARLE #1 into drive A or
B and make it the default drive. For instance if the drive
containing the diskette is drive A, type:
    A:
    then press the ENTER key.

    2. When at the DOS prompt type:
    INSTALL
    then press the ENTER key.

    3. Several options are then available:
* Customize: this option allows you to choose in which
    directories VOXPARLE files will be copied. If you wish to
    change one default directory names or more you simply have
    to delete each of them by pressing the BACKSPACE key then
    type the new name. When you have finished press the ENTER
    key to validate. It is possible to choose directories for
    VOXPARLE files, the batch files and the utilities, that is
    CARNET, AGENDA and DISCOTEC. If you do not wish to change
    any directory name select the desired option via the arrow
    keys.
* Voxparle: this option allows you to install the main program
    and its related files. Important: this option must always
    be selected before installing any driver or profile for
    the program to work. When the program is installed
    VOXPARLE invites you to validate. Select then the next
    option.
* Drivers: this option allows you to install the driver
    specific to your speech synthesizer. When you have
    selected the Driver option, press the ENTER key once. You
    then enter a list of available drivers. Only select the
    required driver and press the ENTER key. VOXPARLE then
    asks you to choose an address or a communication port from
    COM1/ to COM4: or from LPT1: to LPT3:, depending on your
    synthesizer type, i.e. if you use a card, a parallel or
    serial box etc. If you do not know the address or what
    communication port to use let the default values.
    Otherwise select the required value via the UP and DOWN
    arrow keys. When you have finished, press the ENTER key.
    VOXPARLE then asks you the name of the batch file which
    will run the program. If you wish a particular name delete
    the default name with the BACKSPACE key and type the new
    one (eight characters maximum). When you have finished
    press the ENTER key again. The program then starts the
    installation and when it has been  completed informs you
    about the command to type to run VOXPARLE and invites you
    to validate. You are then back in the driver list on the
    driver which you have just installed. If you own several
    speech synthesizers you may choose another driver to
    install and follow the same steps. If you have finished
    choose the Previous Menu option at the bottom of the
    screen.
    Warning! It is essential to select the driver    corresponding to the specifications of your speech
    synthesizer for it would not work with VOXPARLE. Please
    see your speech synthesizer manual for further information
    about its exact references.
* Profiles: choose this option to install one profile and/or
    dictionary or more corresponding to a given application.
    Once you have selected this option press the ENTER key.
    Three options are then available: Complete, Partial and
    Exit. The Complete option enables you to install all the
    profiles sold with VOXPARLE. The Partial option enables
    you to choose one profile and/or dictionary or more to
    install. When you choose this option and press the ENTER
    key you are in the list of available profiles and
    dictionaries. Choose the required profile via the UP and
    DOWN arrow keys. For example to install the STANDARD
    profile select it and press the ENTER key. The profile and
    its associated dictionary will then be installed.
    When the installation has been completed the program
    invites you to press the ENTER key. If you had chosen the
    Complete option you are then back on it and you may either
    choose the Partial option so as to re-enter the profile
    list or quit this option. If you quit this option you are
    then back in the main menu. If you had chosen the Partial
    option you are then back in the profile list. At this
    stage you may either choose another one or quit this list
    and the submenu by pressing the ESC key and choosing the
    Previous Menu option.
* Utilities: this option allows you to install the vocal
    address book, the diary and the DISCOTEC utility.
* Exit: choose this option to exit the program when you have
    completed the installation.
