A Multisensory Tool to Improve Learning

WordScholar is a powerful new computer program designed for
people with specific learning disabilities. In conjunction with a
speech synthesizer, WordScholar, guides the user through text on
a screen by highlighting and speaking the words simultaneously.
This combination of the spoken and printed word improves
reading comprehension, retention and speed - the keys to achieving
advancement in learning skills. Fully compatible with most
personal computer systems, WordScholar works with all popular text
based DOS applications. It is both logical and simple to use.

WordScholar makes learning easier by enhancing the written
word with the power of speech.

A more detailed look at WordScholar:

Visual Tracking of Spoken Words
With WordScholar, the text you select (word, line, sentence or
paragraph) is spoken one word at a time in a natural human
sounding voice. As each word is spoken it is also highlighted
visually in a stand-out color. This multisensory influx of sight
and sound will help improve reading, writing, spelling and
comprehension. Plus, Misspelled words become more obvious.
Concentration and creativity improves. Distractions are reduced.
WordScholar never tires of repeating a sentence.

The "Say All" feature "reads" to the end of a document. Press
one key and the "reading" will stop, another and it will repeat
words and sentences as directed. The user is in control.

Intuitive Commands
The easy to use speech functions are concentrated on the numeric
keypad. This keypad becomes a high performance tool for writing,
reading and listening. The keypad is used to move the cursor,
highlight the text on the screen, cause text to be spoken and to
control the menu system. Individual words, lines of text, complete
sentences, whole paragraphs and entire documents can be read with
a few simple key strokes.

American Heritage Dictionary Learning with WordScholar has
been made even easier by including the 310,000-word Collegiate
version of the American Heritage Dictionary (AHD). Users can
quickly expand their vocabulary, check spelling, and learn the
meaning of words all at the touch of a key. Put the cursor on a
word, press a key, and the definition appears on the screen along
with the word broken into syllables. Words and definitions can
be cut and pasted into a document, eliminating retyping. The
Anagram function can unscramble misspelled words, displaying
all words that contain the same letters. In addition to these
functions, AHD also features Thesaurus, Wordhunter and
Crossword.

Menu Driven
The pop-up menus are logical and uncomplicated, four simple
keys are all you need. A HELP LINE is always visible to tell
where you are. For a shortcut, press the first letter of the
choice and WordScholar will automatically go to and select it.

Simple Speech Controls
Volume, rate, pitch, and tone can all be adjusted to the user's
taste. Certain synthesizers offer a choice between several male
or female voices. To avoid confusion the WordScholar Cursor
can be set to sound and look different from the PC Cursor. The
amount of punctuation spoken, the way numbers are said, the way
words are pronounced, and the pause between words can all be
adjusted to improve concentration and reduce distraction. The
speech may also be turned off at any time.
