TOLL-FREE ADA INFORMATION LINE BEGINS DECEMBER 1

The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded a grant to the Disability Rights Education and
Defense Fund (DREDF) for the establishment of a toll-free telephone service to provide technical
assistance to businesses, state and local government entities, persons with disabilities and their
advocates on the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The service will be operational on December 1 and will be available from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
pacific time. Spanish speaking staff is available. The toll-free number is:

                         800-466-4ADA (Voice/TDD)

The technical assistance staff will provide information and consultation on the requirements
of Titles II and III of the ADA (activities of state and local governments and public accommodations
provisions). "We believe that high quality technical assistance is the key to voluntary compliance with
the law," Jim Gleich, Executive Director of DREDF noted.

DREDF, the only national law and policy center dedicated to furthering the civil rights of all
persons with disabilities, is the acknowledged expert on the content and legislative intent of the law.
The organization has a 12 year track record in providing technical assistance on disability rights laws
and regulations.
