                            MONOPOLY

MONOPOLY TRADING GAME IS A TRADEMARK OF PARKER BROTHERS,
AND ALL OTHER TRADEMARKS MENTIOND IN THIS GAME BELONG TO THEIR
PROSPECTIVE OWNERS.

INTRODUCTION:

This version of MONOPOLY was written for the blind community.
The game should follow all of the conventional rules of the PARKER
BROTHER'S board game MONOPOLY. This game has several helpful
options that allow for very detailed location of properties and
tokens, and distribution of the players money. The aim of this
program was to enable blind people to follow and know exactly what
is going on in the game at all times. This game also has multi
media sounds. If you have a sound card in your machine, you will
now be able to hopefully enjoy the game even more. If you do not
have a sound card, the game was designed to send the digitized
sounds to the P C speaker. But the best sounds do come from
sending
it through the sound card. So give this game a shot and see how
you like it!

        GETTING STARTED:

To install the game on the C drive just type INSTALL from the
drive where the game disk is located. The program will make a
directory on your C drive called mnpl96 and will put all the game
files into it. If you would like to put the game into another
directory, that will not create any problems. Just copy all the
files into the directory you want as your MONOPOLY directory.

To start the game type MONOPOLY from with in the directory
where the MONOPOLy game is located. For example: If the MONOPOLY
game was installed on the C drive in a directory call MNPL96 type
MONOPOLY at the C:>MNPL96 prompt. The game will begin with the
title screen.

The first thing the computer will display at the bottom of the
title screen is what mode the sound driver is in. Then the
computer will ask if you would like to change the sound driver
setting. Type Y to change the settings. If you have a SOUND
BLASTER card or compatible try setting number one. If not try
setting number two and if you do not want any sound choose number
three. NOTE: A musical peace will begin to play you may hit the
escape key at any time during the playing of the song and the music
will stop.

Then the computer will ask if you would like to play a saved
game. Type Y if you would like to play a saved game, and the game
will start right from where you last saved the game. If you do not
want to play a saved game hit any other key to go on.

The computer will inform you that the starting cash is fifteen
hundred dollars, and if you would like to change this amount. The
range can be any where between zero and three thousand dollars.
The default is the MONOPOLY basic rules default of fifteen hundred
dollars.

Then the game will ask for the number of players. You may
play with two to four people.

Then you will be prompted for each players name. The name
must
contain only one word.
Then each player will have to pick a token from the token
list. In a no sound mode the tokens do not mean much, but if you
saved the game and replayed it with sound the tokens would be
needed.

Once the last player picks their token the dice will roll and
your off!

OBJECT:

The object of the game is to be the last player left in the
game. This is achieved by buying property, monopolizing entire
color blocks, and then building houses and hotels. Which would
cause the other players to deplete their cash by paying you rent.
As the other players continuously land on your empire you slowly
drive them in to bankruptcy.

Most of the rules are taken care of by the computer. How
ever. There are a few areas where the players may have some
latitude. One area where there is some latitude is in the starting
cash. You may set the starting cash any where between zero and
three thousand dollars. Try playing a game with only a couple of
hundred dollars. Another place the players may have a latitude is
when building houses. You should build up houses evenly across the
entire color block as by the MONOPOLY BASIC RULES. If desired the
game will allow the players to build up there houses unevenly if
that is the way the players wish to play. When a player lands on
an unowned property and they choose to not buy it. They should
offer the property up for auction. This should be handled away
from the computer, and then enter in the result in the bying menu.

    COMMANDS:

Here is a list of commands and what they do:
B = Buy property. This will enable the player who lands on unowned
property to buy it from the bank or to auction it to the other
players.
L = Look up group. This lets the player look up a particular color
block, and to inspect the details of the properties.
W = Where are the players. This will show where all the players
are on the game board.
O = Owners of property. This will display all the property owned
by one player.
M = Mortgage. Here a player could mortgage, unmortgaged and look
up the cash balances of all players.
H = House business. A player owning a complete color block may buy
houses or hotels if they have enough cash, or they could sell them
back to the bank.
Q = Quit turn. Hit this when the player is all done with their
turn.
D = Menu description. This will toggle from a full list of menu
choices to a few. This should cause less screen chatter.
X = Exit the game. This will end the game, and allow for the game
to be saved.

PS,
The market base for programs to supply the visually impaired and
blind community is small. If programmers are going to write fun
and enjoyable programs then your support is very important. I
enjoyed Writing this program, and would like to try working on
a few other programs. I would like to employ myself full time
writing programs for this community. In order for me and any other
person wishing to produce products for you, that means that if you
like and use the program then buy it. Giving or receiving unpaid
for programs and using them only makes it very hard for people to
produce products for this small base of people. For example, a
very good leisure game has been on the market for several years,
and in all that time only 250 to 300 games have been sold. The
game is very good and either there are many unpaid for games out
there, or not many people like it. If this program does as good
as the other game and one was going to try to make a living with
that kind of support, one would either have to write 10 programs a
year or starve or write code for someone else. Programmers are not
looking for any hand outs. Just pay them for what is do them.
Thank you for your time and support and if you would like to give
me some feedback on this or any other topic feil free to contact
me.
