Domino Portable Reading System

TeleSensory's Domino reading machine provides the visually impaired with unparalleled access to the written word. Just scan any printed page and Domino will read it back to you. Light weight and portable, Domino utilizes TeleSensory's patent-pending BoundLess Reading design to scan pages all the way to a book's binding -- clearly, correctly and quickly. No other reading machine stacks up to Domino!

Read What You Please
Imagine walking into a library, selecting any book you want and being able to read it on the spot, even though it's not in enlarged print or braille. TeleSensory's Domino allows you to do just that. In fact, Domino allows you to scan almost any printed page and in a matter of seconds it will read it back to you. Novels, magazine articles, bank statements, office memos, cookbooks and restaurant menus are just a few examples of what you can read with Domino. No other reading machine gives visually impaired users the freedom to access the written word like Domino!

Perfectly Portable
Domino's light weight and small size make it easy to carry to meetings, take on trips or simply transport to another room. About the size of a briefcase, Domino weighs 14 pounds and measures 12"x15"x4". The molded plastic, durable exterior features a handle for easy carrying. A custom travel case will also be available in the future for lengthy trips which can be carried either by the handle or worn as a backpack. Because Domino can be powered either by an AC power supply or by rechargeable battery packs, users can scan and read documents absolutely anywhere!

BoundLess Reading Design
Domino's "BoundLess Reading" design refers to its ability to scan a page all the way to the binding. TeleSensory's proprietary design resolves a common problem associated with some reading machines: garbled character recognition due to distorted type. On most scanners, books cannot lie flat at the center because of the binding. Consequently, the "tent-like" effect caused by the binding increases the distance between the words printed near the spine and the scanner, causing distortion when the type is scanned. By solving the positioning problem, Domino scans flat type and accurately reads it back. Plus, Domino readily reads both portrait and landscape orientation.

Fast Response
Domino scans quickly and begins "speaking" in a matter of seconds. Likewise, Domino will "read back" a page as it simultaneously scans the next--there's no delay or interruptions. And Domino is so fast, it can capture an 8 1/2" x 14" page in less than 12 seconds! There's no limit to how many pages can be scanned and read at one sitting.

Features and Benefits
These are just some of the features and benefits that put TeleSensory's Domino in a class by itself.

International Access
Created as an international product, Domino currently reads English, Spanish, German and French and can scan pages as large as A4 (European). The AC power supply will operate in the U.S., Canada and Europe and meets all safety standards. Likewise, its Optical Character Recognition (OCR) engine recognizes thousands of typefaces in sizes from 5 to 64 points.

Simple Controls
A simple, basic control panel directs all of Domino's functions. The bright tactile controls are easy to see or feel for visually impaired users.

Scan
As each page is scanned, Domino will notify the user that it is ready to accept another. When reading multiple page documents, Domino is able to eliminate pauses in speaking by processing future pages as it simultaneously reads the current page.

Volume
Volume can be controlled for reading text, message prompts and musical chimes.

Speech
Domino's integrated speech system provides clear speech with a continually adjustable rate of 120 to 400 words per minute. Users can change reading speed at will without causing delays and can choose from nine different speaking voices.

Spell
Domino will spell words letter-by-letter or phonetically at the user's command.

Navigate
Users can move forward and backward through words or entire documents at will. This allows users to repeat words, letters and sentences or revisit previously read sections.

Allows Privacy
Use Domino's earphones when privacy and volume are preferred. Jacks are provided for attaching headphones, an external amplifier and/or speaker and a tape recorder.

Worry Free Scanning
Domino is not demanding when it comes to placing documents for scanning. In fact, users can place a printed page right side up or upside down, landscape or portrait orientation and Domino will scan it and quickly read it back.

Easy to Learn
Domino can actually teach users how to use it more proficiently. When set to Novice Mode, Domino will provide more in-depth spoken messages, prompts, and even more detailed control functions. Domino uses six different musical sounds which coincide with certain functions. For novice users, both the spoken message and the associated musical chime will be heard. Experienced users can switch to Expert Mode to hear only a chime. For example, when preparing to scan a page in Novice Mode, the user will hear, "Ready to scan" as well as a chime. In Expert Mode, the user only hears the chime.
