TeleSensory

The PowerBraille Family
40, 65, and 80-cell refreshable computer-access braille displays

In today's information age, the ability to use a computer is critical to career success. TeleSensory's PowerBraille refreshable braille displays work with notebook and desktop computers to translate screen information into 8-dot refreshable braille. The result is effective and easy access to computer power for blind users, permitting them to compete on a fair and equal footing in the job market or continue and enhance their education.
The PowerBraille family has three models - each with different display sizes to meet varying needs.

PowerBraille 40
Portable and lightweight
PowerBraille 40 (PB40), with a 40-cell display, slim profile, small footprint, light weight, and lowest cost, is the best choice for use with laptops or other applications where portability is a prime consideration. The PB40 has a unique battery system that operates for up to seven hours. A tactile power indicator displays the time used on battery and current charge rate when PowerBraille 40 is plugged in and turned off. You'll know about it quickly if you start to run low on power with the PowerBraille 40.

PowerBraille 65
Mid-range power and economy
The mid-range PowerBraille 65 (PB65) is an ideal compromise choice to blend competing interests of cost and functionality for most users.
While 80 cells usually match DOS line formats perfectly, Windows formatting with variable pitch character presentation can have more than 100 characters per line.
Even 80+ character cell displays cannot assure the user of a full-line presentation. Studies show that 65 characters is an effective display for most Windows applications.
PB65's braille display . . .
- matches well with the number of characters per line for most non-word-processing applications.
- is long enough to provide efficient reading in a broader environment.
- provides greater physical comfort for many users.
- represents a good choice from an economic viewpoint as well.
Best of all, the user who selects a PB65, and later finds increasing needs warrant a PB80, can have the PB65 upgraded quickly and economically.

PowerBraille 80
For power users
The PowerBraille 80 with an 80-cell display plus an added cell for easier separation of dual-window display, is the configuration of choice for "power users" who want to get the absolute most out of their system. It also ensures full-line display in a highly formatted DOS environment or under Windows. Its power and larger display is especially valuable for highly formatted materials, such as columnar spreadsheets.

Working with speech
Each member of the PowerBraille family also works with speech output in a complementary and fully integrated fashion. The precision of speech and the speed and flexibility of braille can both be yours in a way that is designed to "work together" rather than being an "afterthought add-on."

Easy touch
Each PowerBraille is equipped with the popular ScreenPower Braille or ScreenPower Integrated (braille + speech) software. ScreenPower software offers many features, including interactive Grade 2 braille, and comes ready to work with popular applications.
The Touch Sensor Strip lets you move the cursor to any character on the braille display for easy editing. With separate buttons for cursor and display movement, PowerBraille displays make it easy to control the computer while reading the display. With a touch, the cell position of a character is located instantly - an important tool for many applications, especially when formatting columnar material.

Windowing in Windows
Sighted users can have a split window for a single application or document permitting simultaneous viewing of the main text being edited, as well as a footnote or table of contents, for example. Now the same power is available to the blind user with any member of the PowerBraille family.
Whether the display is 40, 65, or 80 characters, the user can divide it into two braille windows, so long as the minimum window is 10 braille cells. Under ScreenPower software control, a "divider cell" can be used to separate the left and right windows. The divider cell can be whatever character the user finds most convenient, from "blank" up to all 8 dots appearing. The PB80 includes an extra cell (81 total) so that two 40-cell windows can be displayed simultaneously, while still providing for the "divider cell."

Extra power, extra utility
The PB65 and PB80 come with a host of extra features to facilitate "power usage" in the workplace or in school. For instance, two speaker-input connectors and one speaker-output connector permit simultaneous connection of headphones and a speaker or the mixing of two speech sources without a separate amplifier. New mode switches are user-definable in the software permitting each user to customize the switch functions based on his or her particular application needs. Multiple (duplicate) retreat/advance controls minimize the need to move your hands excessively to control motion regardless of which part of the long 65- or 80-cell display you're reading.
These are only a few of the many powerful advanced features provided in TeleSensory's PowerBraille family. Try it for yourself, and you'll see why TeleSensory describes itself as "the braille company."

Software is the key
TeleSensory manufactures its own braille cells and is a principal supplier to many other manufacturers of braille display products. But no matter how good any braille display is, the key to effective use is the software which drives the display.
For DOS users, ScreenPower Integrated (SPI) provides well-planned integration of both speech and braille capabilities. For Windows users, ScreenPower for Windows (SPWin) has even more extensive capabilities to which many blind people have found no equal.
Will it work for you? Try TeleSensory and see. Many people, many choices - powerful and flexible hardware and software are designed to work together in a way which meets your needs in either the workplace or at school.
