TeleSensory

VersaPoint - fast, friendly, and flexible braille printer
TeleSensory has developed a unique, patented braille printer that brings desktop publishing to braille users, computer professionals, teachers, and business people. Its braille is consistent, high, and sharp. The noise level has been reduced by 10 decibels.

Features and benefits

40 characters per second
VersaPoint gives you speed and quality.
30,000 character buffer A large buffer frees your computer so you can continue working while the VersaPoint prints. This is very important when taking advantage of VersaPoint's multiple copy features.

6-dot or 8-dot braille
Blind programmers often need to print more than the normal lower set of ASCII characters - 8-dot braille makes it possible.

Underline spacing
Braille users now have an effective solution for blank space in tabular printouts, charts, and screen printouts. When underline spacing is used, VersaPoint prints dots 7 and 8 in place of spaces. Users can then stay oriented when tracking across large areas of blank space.

Tractor feed
VersaPoint uses continuous form, tractor-feed paper for hours of easy and efficient operation without user intervention.

Micro paper feed
This allows the user to easily make fine adjustments of paper positioning and adds precision to VersaPoint desktop publishing.

Backward form feed
VersaPoint has backward as well as forward form feed which helps save continuous form-feed paper. This is very handy when extra form feeds are generated by a computer or word processor. Backward form feed allows easy return to the top-of-previous-form position.

Preset configuration
The printer/computer connection is simplified because VersaPoint is shipped ready to print in serial and parallel modes with Apple and IBM computers. Settings can also be easily reset to meet your specific braille embossing needs.

11 solenoids
A solenoid is VersaPoint's stylus. VersaPoint uses 11 solenoids, thus ensuring long life and reliability.

Computer braille translators
VersaPoint has nine built-in international language trans-lators, and you can load your own braille translation table.

Adjustable paper widths
VersaPoint prints on paper up to 13 inches wide or as narrow as 2 inches (33 cm x 5 cm).
Adjustable paper weights A five position knob lets you select the degree of impact for regular paper, braille paper or extra heavy paper.

Sideways (landscape) printing
Braille readers have been restricted because one braille line on a single page can be no longer than 42 characters. VersaPoint solves this problem by printing true sideways down multiple sheets of continuous form-feed paper. VersaPoint produces documents with line lengths up to 30,000 characters long. Information on computer screens can be printed with the same print format as the screen.
Business people use Versa-Point to print braille spreadsheets and ledgers. Teachers use VersaPoint to make tables for braille-reading math or science students. With VersaPoint, the limitation of the 42-cell braille line has been overcome.

Multiple copies
With VersaPoint's multiple-copy printing feature, it's much easier for teachers, transcribers, and organizations to produce and distribute information in braille. Making multiple copies with a braille printer is more economical than thermoforming. The multiple-copy feature automatically produces up to 99 copies and frees the host computer for other work after the data has been sent only once.

The great escape
VersaPoint's features of graphics, sideways printing, and multiple copies can be automatically initiated by inserting special escape sequences into the file to be printed. This allows documents which combine these printing modes to be printed with no operator intervention.

Tactile graphics
With the VersaPoint printer and a personal computer, tactile graphics are easily produced. Braille readers can have access to many of the same diagrams and drawings that their sighted classmates or co-workers use. Maps, geometric illustrations, and pictures can now be produced in tactile form. Teachers working with blind students have an innovative, new teaching tool. The VersaPoint gives orientation and mobility instructors easy ways to make maps.
VersaPoint produces graphics with OsCaR on a PC and from a drawing program on an Apple II. With OsCaR, TeleSensory's scanning system, black and white pictures are scanned and printed by VersaPoint. This is the fastest way ever to turn a print picture into a braille picture.
Blind and low vision students need to "see" graphic representations of subjects they are studying just as much as sighted students. In minutes a teacher can create and emboss one or more copies of a picture for reinforcement of classroom subject materials.

Acoustical enclosure
The noise level of the VersaPoint has been reduced by 10 decibels. If you need it to be even quieter, you can purchase the VersaPoint Acoustical Enclosure. This specially-designed case eliminates about 75 percent of the noise. The enclosure is a solid hardwood cabinet with layers of acoustic foam to absorb sound. There are openings in the front and back for the paper to enter and exit. A hinged lid provides easy access to the VersaPoint. The enclosure is 30.5 inches wide, 26.5 inches deep, and 14 inches high (78 cm x 68 cm x 36 cm).

Designed with you in mind
VersaPoint's exterior design provides easy access to all control switches. The serial and parallel ports are on the side - not the back - and the tractor feed is under the front cover. Everything is at your fingertips.
An expanded control panel includes switches to start multiple copies, adjust paper thickness, and indicate a serial or parallel interface.
