catalog lists titles in several different accessible media. The titles largely

Using the Book Catalog, Disk Edition

This disk edition book catalog is composed of a series of ASCII (text-only)
files. These files are designed to be of a convenient size for loading into
your computer (no one file is larger than 273 kilobytes).

Each separate ASCII file contains one subject category. For example,
geography books can be found in the file "GEOGRAPH.TXT". This file will
contain all geography books offered in the catalog in any medium. Within
each subject category the books are listed alphabetically by title or series
name.

After you have selected a file that contains a subject category of interest,
you will find that each book listing in that file contains line markers
designed to help you with your search. Here is a list of the line markers:

SE: = series, meaning that the book in question is part of a series
TI: = title
AU: = author
PU: = publisher
DT: = date of publication or copyright
SU: = subject
GR: = grade level
ISBN: = international standard book number
VL: = number of volumes that make up the book
LT: = large type catalog number
BR: = braille catalog number
BPR: = braille/print/recorded catalog number
CEN: = Century Series catalog number
REC: = recorded book catalog number
RP: = regular print catalog number
T2: = TEXT2000 catalog number
PR: = price

Searching for the line marker "TI:" will take you to the start of an entry.
Having found a specific title, you can explore its information line by line.

Note that the line markers toward the end of the above list indicate the
type of medium of the book. In addition to these markers, you will be able
to identify the medium of the book by noting the prefix of the APH catalog
number. Here are the catalog number prefixes for each type of medium:

--Braille books: 5, 6, Q, T, or X (Note: "X" denotes braille music.)
--Large type books: 4, L, or J
--Braille/Print/Recorded books: 3
--Century Series books: 2
--Recorded books: C or R
--Regular print books: 7 or 8
--TEXT2000 books: 9
--Video Tapes: 1

Note: the Video Tape section has a different format. This section is
presented in paragraph form with descriptions of each video.

The maximum line length in the book listings is 78 characters (a hard
return is at the end of each line). This is for ease of use with standard DOS
line editors. Note: the DOS Text Editor can only load files of 64 kilobytes
or less. Due to this limitation, some of the larger subject category files
may not load in this particular program.

services, open the file "INFO.TXT".
