Welcome to Powerboard Speech, a powerful and flexible BBS package,
designed to work well with voice synthesis. Powerboard Speech is a
NUIQ Software product, producers of the Powerboard BBS package.
World headquarters for Powerboard is located in Larchmont NY. The
support board for Powerboard in Larchmont can be reached at
1-914-833-1479.

Due to the specific design of Powerboard Speech, a special support
BBS is available for technical support. If you have any questions
about Powerboard Speech (PBS) contact the Powerboard Speech support
board, 1-Stop BBS, 1-317-784-2422. 1-Stop BBS will provide technical
help, and offers many speech-friendly files for downloading, including
speech-configuration files for the Powerboard Speech BBS package.

To install Powerboard Speech, from the DOS prompt, just type:

"install" <enter>

Tested with a 486/33, and a synthesizer at a medium speech rate, the
installation takes anywhere from 6 to 22 minutes. The 22 minutes is
a result of leaving the speech on through out the entire
installation. Leaving the speech on should do no harm, but will slow
down the process dramatically. Should you decide to turn off your
speech for most of the installation, Do so, only after you have
answered "y" to the "continue with installation?" prompt.

After all the archived files have been decompressed, you will be
asked six simple questions, all through BIOS.

After answering the 6 questions, you will be presented with a modem
configuration utility program. The program offers 445 makes and
models in alphabetical order. If you wish to just use a generic
initialization string, just enter 446.

Should you want to make any changes after the installation, just run
Nodeed.exe, a straight BIOS utility. PBConfig.exe is a utility used
for the same purpose. PBConfig, however, though faster and more
organized that Nodeed, requires some speech configuration. For
pbconfig.exe documentation, consult pbconfig.doc, after the
installation.

Note:

In the shareware version of Powerboard Speech, only 1 node is
allowed, node zero. So, if you wish to reconfigure your installation
setup, you must run nodeed with the node number, in this case.
Example:

nodeed 0

The complete manual has been included in this package. After
installing, read the toc.doc file in your manual directory. Toc.doc
is a brief table of contents, explaining what each .doc file is about.

After installing PBS, please look at README.1st, found in the main
BBS directory, for information on setting up your voice synthesizer.

Thanks for using Powerboard Speech. Enjoy!
