                             PAGER, Version 1.0
                                  FREEWARE

This program is FREEWARE. As such, it is not warranted or guaranteed
in any way or for any reason. However, it does work and it is virus free.

PAGER was written and compiled with QuickBasic 4.5. As such, it must have
a program called "BRUN45.EXE" somewhere in your PATH to be able to run,
unless you have downloaded the Stand-Alone version.

PAGER will use your modem to send data to digital pagers.
After it sends the page, PAGER will reset your modem and send a message
to it which disables AUTO ANSWERING (otherwise your phone will ring and
the caller will hear your modem answer).

PAGER WILL NOT send alphabetical information to alpha/numeric pagers.

You should probably put PAGER in a subdirectory included in your path
statement. This way, it's always handy.

                              DISTRIBUTION

PAGER is distributed three ways:

     1. WITHOUT BRUN45.EXE for those who already have BRUN45.EXE.
         [The smallest package.]

     2. WITH BRUN45.EXE for those who do not have it.

     3. AS STAND-ALONE PROGRAMS. You do not need BRUN45.EXE but
this version takes up infinitely more space.

In any case, you'll need to run SETUP.EXE to tell PAGER which COM port
you are using on your system for your modem. If you change COM ports
for your modem, don't forget to RE-run SETUP to change PAGER again.

                         SAMPLE BATCH FILE

A sample batch file is included to illustrate how you can use the program
to make the same page on a recurring basis (daily, etc). This allows you
to use the program as a REMINDER of appointments, etc; or to use it as an
alarm clock, or other uses you may think of which haven't occured to me.

                         MENU BATCH FILE

If you're using DOS 6.0, you may want to look at the other batch file
included. It is a sample menu batch file you can use to select from a
number of pager numbers you store or to enter a pager number not stored
in your list. It only works with DOS 6.0 since it makes use of the
CHOICE command.

The menu batch file is handy if you have several people you page often.
Examples: a maintenace crew for an office building/hospital, etc. A
company with several outside sales people.

                              THE END

That's it. E-Mail me on America Online with comments/suggestions.
If enough of you like this, I may make improvements/mods and go to a
shareware format.
