For beginning readers there are a number of titles in braille and print
only, without pictures. Perennial favorites such as "The Cat in the Hat,"
by Dr. Seuss, "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad
Day," by Judith Viorst, and some "Sesame Street" books are featured.

Books for older children use grade two interpoint braille (braille on both
sides of the page). Judy Blume's "Superfudge," E. B. White's "Charlotte's
Web," and Beverly Cleary's "Ramona" series are among the most frequently
ordered titles.

As Seedlings is a non-profit organization and must fund raise the
difference in the cost of production and the price of the books, donations
and memorials and contributions in honor of birthdays, anniversaries, and
other special events are always welcomed.

The Rose Project
SEEDLINGS BRAILLE BOOKS FOR CHILDREN ANNOUNCES "THE ROSE PROJECT": WORLD
BOOK ENCYCLOPEDIA ARTICLES IN BRAILLE!

Seedlings Braille Books, maker of low-cost braille books for children,
announces on their 10th anniversary, a new, experimental service: World
Book Encyclopedia articles in BRAILLE!

Doing a project or report? Or just interested in a particular subject? Just
call them at 1-800-777-8552 and tell them your topic, name, address, and
phone number with area code. Their computers will translate the requested
World Book articles into braille, and the print-out will be mailed to you
(Free Matter for the Blind) within five working days. A print copy can
also be included for parents or general education teachers to assist in
reading if needed.

The equipment for The Rose Project was made possible by a bequest from
"Rose." Thanks to her generosity, this service can currently be offered
free of charge for students (although the number of pages per student may
have to be limited).

Since this is a new service, Seedlings welcomes your comments about the
project's usefulness.

Seedlings is a non-profit corporation dedicated to providing high-quality,
low-cost braille books for children. To receive their catalog of books, or
for more information about the Rose Project, call 800-777-8552, or write

Item #42 The Speech Friendly World Series Baseball Game
From: "H. H. Hollingsworth"
Email: 102747.1600@compuserve.com
The prize-winning World Series Baseball Game and Information
System is being played in 48 states and four foreign countries by
sight-impaired owners of IBM and IBM-compatible computers.

The game is updated annually following the end of each
baseball season. Version 10 is now being shipped.

The WSBB game and system comes with two baseball games, a
number of programs facilitating playing the game, and eight
programs providing information about major league baseball,
including one giving the members of the Baseball Hall of Fame, one
giving the history of baseball, one giving the history of the World
Series, one giving the top 10 men in all major batting and pitching
categories, one giving the leaders each season in the important
batting and pitching records, a 1,000-question baseball quiz, one
giving the 50 best teams of all time, etc.

In the two baseball games, the operator acts as manager,
making all the managing decisions, including pinch hitting,
changing pitchers, sacrificing, attempting to steal a base, moving
the infield in, moving the outfield in, attempting to squeeze in a
runner, intentionally walking a batter, etc. In one of the two
games the player plays against the 1927 New York Yanks, the best
team of all time, which is managed by the computer.

More than 150 teams come with the game. Playing the game is
like listening to a radio broadcast of a World Series game. Much
of the language used by famous radio and TV baseball announcers has
been used in the game, which is announced by the operator's screen
reader and voice synthesizer.

It is available for $15 from Harry Hollingsworth, 692 S.
Sheraton Drive, Akron, Ohio 44319; telephone 216 644 2421. The
annual update costs only $5. People who have the game receive five
newsletters a year from Hollingsworth reporting what people are
doing with the game, new developments in the game, etc.

Item #64 Acrontech - The Personal Organizer
Acrontech announces The Personal Organizer, a user friendly
and integrated software package which is extremely simple to use.
It is designed specifically for individuals who rely on access devices
such as large print, speech or Braille output technology.

George Priftis, president of Acrontech says "In today's high tech world,
software designed to simplify daily tasks for the average computer user,
often complicate things for users of adaptive technology or other
special groups. The Personal Organizer eliminates the confusion and makes
computer access a breeze for everyone. People don't even need to know
how to use a computer in order to use the Organizer"

Although this program is useful for anyone, it is ideal for individuals
who have sight impairments, learning disabilities, dyslexia or difficulties
with memory retention. Nancy Priftis, the vice-president of
the ten year old company, emphasizes that the Personal Organizer is
the only software product needed in combination with large print,
speech or Braille. Writing a letter, scheduling appointments, balancing
a check book and accessing an address book to print an envelope,
are daily tasks which can be performed quite effectively even by
the novice computer user.

The Personal Organizer was recently demonstrated at the World Blind
Union conference in Toronto. The simplicity of the program is what
impressed those who observed the demonstration. One of the visitors
commented "Acrontech has incorporated the most useful functions of many
other programs into one software package". This program is ideal for use
at home, at the office or at school.

One of the key features of the Personal Organizer is the unique
presentation of menus and entry fields on the screen. Information
is displayed in a vertical format taking up only a portion of the screen
which can be magnified and easily read by speech or Braille output devices.
Large print software users, no longer need to scroll across the line
to read their letters and documents. Writing a check on your own
check book with speech or Braille was virtually unheard of by
computer users. The Personal Organizer allows you to keep track of
all your personal expenses confidentially and independently.

All modules of the Personal Organizer are based on a simple concept
of operation. If you can write a letter, you could also file data,
book appointments, write checks and print envelopes. At the low
introductory price of $295.00 Personal Organizer is the only application
software one will need.

Personal Organizer Key features.

Following is a partial list of the program's unique functions.

1. Write and spell check letters. Address the letters and print them
along with their envelopes automatically from the built-in address
book. All letters and envelopes are automatically type set every time.

2. Schedule appointments and reminders in a uniquely designed and
   accessible Calendar.

3. Take charge of your finances. Write checks on your own checkbook
   even with speech.

4. File recipes, create shopping lists and store other items of interest
   in a simple way.

5. Write Journal entries and find them later with a single word,
   contained in a particular entry.

6. Use the scientific or basic calculator for any calculation.
At the end, copy the result in a letter, a note or on your check amount
   line.

7. When using large print, format the screen for vertical reading
to eliminate scrolling across the line.

Acrontech has a demo available that could be sent to you by post or E-mail.
Downloading it from our web site is also another convenient way.

Item #65 Outa Sight
Hi everyone.
I know some of you might know me but for everyone who doesn't I wanted to
tell you about my new Company Called Outa Sight Products and thought I
would introduce what we are all about.

I started my Company a year and a half ago
because my husband and I had some great ides for new products for the blind
and it snowballed from there.

We have 4 brand new inventions that know one else will have in our new
Catalog and we have over 150 other great items. All have been tested to
pass our
quality control, if it didn't pass it didn't get into our catalog.
Our new invention:
Our new (soft) reusable clothing tags that you braille with a slate
yourself have room for 12 cells or if you don't know braille the new film
can be scribed with letters it's up to you then you just put the new film
into our soft holder. These tags can be sewn into your clothing and will
withstand the heat so you can put it into a hot dryer, washer, send the
cloths to the dry cleaner or if you iron your clothes these tags can be
ironed and the braille won't be damaged. If on the off chance the braille
does get damaged you can re braille the same tag.
These new tags come with a stencil for your slate so when your making the
tags the braille will always be centered.

We also have invented General Purpose reusable tags so you can label almost
everything else
like boxes, cans, anything from a small bottle of hot sauce or medicines, to
a large box of detergent. With these tags you just take it off the item
before
throwing it out and put it on something else, you will never have to re
label again. These tags can also be put in the freezer. With these tags you
use your dymotape in our new holder, that has a coil you put around the
container. They will last for many many years

Smart Plug: With this new guide you will be able to plug anything in the
wall the first time. If you have any trouble plugging your hairdryer or
vacuum etc this guide will make it a snap. If your trying to plug
something in behind the couch but you can only feel it this guide will only
let you plug it in one way,by creating a smooth, steady path for your hand
to follow, leading the prongs of the plug directly into the outlet.

We also have new peel and stick spice caps with large tactile letters of
the spices with the braille underneath. This also comes with our beautiful
maple spice blocks.

We have many items besides the ones mentioned above in our new catalog
nothing high tech, so we can all afford it.

We carry over 150 different items including sugar free foods, quality
kitchen ware,Handmade Birdhouses made by the disABLED,The Original Cool
Paws for your dog, these are boots for your dog so there paws will be out
of harms way when walking on Hot pavement,Rocks, or in show.
We also carry the chocolate braille cards and chocolate guide dogs. We are
carrying it for
the same price as if you were getting it from Judy herself at the chocolate
Experience.

I am very excited about our Catalog with our new inventions. If you would

Transcribe Braille Music
quickly, automatically and accurately.
GOODFEEL BRAILLE MUSIC TRANSLATOR

Are you a blind musician who needs to have braille scores quickly? Are you an
educator or rehabilitation professional who serves blind musicians? GOODFEEL
can help you. GOODFEEL automatically converts Lime Notation, MIDI and NIFF
files to braille. To use it, you do not necessarily need to know how to read
braille music.

Fast
GOODFEEL translates your music file in seconds! Your braille score is embossed
on a braille printer and saved as an ASCII text file.

Flexible
Braille a single part, selected parts, or an entire score.

Accurate
GOODFEEL has been developed and tested to conform to the standards set by the
Music Committee of the Braille Authority of North America, standards which
comprise the basis for the international music code.

Promotes Independence After using Cakewalk or another sequencer to prepare
a MIDI file, the blind user can produce a braille score independently.

From the Founder and President, Dancing Dots

As a blind musician, I have known firsthand the frustration of not having
timely access to braille scores. In 1992, I began to pursue my dream of a
solution that would greatly shorten transcription times and increase the amount
and variety of music brailled. I am pleased to report: the solution is here,
the GOODFEEL Braille Music Translator! Since releasing GOODFEEL in 1997, we
have been sharing this solution with people all over the world.
Bill McCann

Reactions to GOODFEEL
The Braille Music Translator

At the Alabama School for the Blind, Ruth Reaves used to take up to a
month to copy a song into braille. Now with GOODFEEL it takes about 4
hours. "It's just been like a godsend," said Reaves, "this just opens up
the world to these kids." Associated Press

It [GOODFEEL] is certainly a breakthrough, the most significant step weve had

VIPinfoNetTM Internet Browser
This software package is an Internet browser designed especially for
people with low vision. It presents HTML files from the Internet in
VIPs three OCR views. In each of these views the font, color, size,
and letter spacing can be adjusted. Speech can be turned on in the RSVP
and Word Wrap Views. Pictures and graphics are downloaded separately
and magnified with VIPs picture viewer. There is a Table Viewer and
both client-side and server side image maps are supported. There is a
built-in find word editor and search capability on the Internet with
built-in Yahoo search.

EZVIPTM Reading System
EZVIP incorporates the same technologies as VIPinfoSoft, but the
difference is EZVIP has a simpler user interface. The concept is that a
person, other than the user, will set up and configure the screens, text
attributes, views, and speech parameters for the user. Thus the user
only controls a two button trackball, making operation even simpler than
a CCTV since there are no focus or brightness adjustments, or x-y table
to deal with. Yet custom configuration feature enables optimal user
performance. Up to 99 custom configurations can be saved for multiple
user situations.
