STATE DEPARTMENT TRAVEL ADVISORY - Chile
============================================================
Chile - Caution
 November 20, 1991

The Department of State recommends that U.S. citizens exercise
caution when traveling in Chile. Although Americans can expect to
visit Chile without incident, bombings and other violent acts
directed against the Mormon Church or other institutions identified
with the United States continue to occur. In addition, visitors to
Chile should take the following precautions to lessen their chances
of becoming victims of crime:

-- When in downtown Santiago, avoid wearing expenseive or
expensive-looking jewely. Women should grip their purses securely.
Men should carry their wallets in a front trouser pocket.

-- Do not walk in the downtown area after dark, even for short
distances in well-traveled areas. Take a taxi.

-- In Santiago, as in other large cities, pickpokets thrive on rush
hour crowding on the street and aboard public transportation. Stay
alert to your surroundings.

U.S. citizens should seek the latest travel information at the
Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy. Consular offices are located
at 230 Merced, telephone 671-0133.
