STATE DEPARTMENT TRAVEL ADVISORY - Jamaica
============================================================
JAMAICA - TRAVEL NOTICE
 August 14, 1991

The level of crime in Kingston, Jamaica's capital, is a serious
problem for some travelers and exceeds the level of criminal
activity elsewhere in the Caribbean. Tourists and other visitors
should take this situation into account and exercise prudence. In
particular, visitors should not walk around at night and, except for
licensed taxicabs, should avoid public transportation.

In the north coast tourist areas, visitors should display the same
degree of vigilance as in the tourist centers elsewhere. Particular
care should be exercised at isolated villas and small
establishments, and public transportation should be avoided.

 No. 91-162

The issuance of this advisory alerts Americans to increased
criminal activity in Jamaica.
