STATE DEPARTMENT TRAVEL ADVISORY - Mongolia
============================================================
MONGOLIA - TRAVEL NOTICE
 October 3, 1991

Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, is remote, and its
tourist facilities are limited and not well-developed. Therefore,
the Department of State advises U.S. citizens against travel to
Mongolia without confirmed onward reservations. Travelers without
confirmed onward reservations can expect delays of several weeks.
There is no guarantee that tickets will be available for the date
travelers wish to depart Mongolia; therefore, it is strongly
recommended that travelers arrive in Mongolia only with confirmed
reservations which will ensure their ability to depart.

Travelers should arrive with either dollars or dollar American
Express travelers checks. Other travelers checks, even if in
dollars, are not always acceptable. Although Diner's Club credit
cards are accepted at the Hotel Ulaanbaatar, it is suggested that
travelers plan to pay with cash or travelers checks. Mongolian
banks are unfamiliar with cash transfers, which can take several
weeks to accomplish. There is no office of American Express or any
international bank in Ulaanbaatar.

Travelers should be aware that hotels in Mongolia are few in
number, often fully booked and charge prices comparable to a
small/medium sized U.S. city.
