STATE DEPARTMENT TRAVEL ADVISORY - Suriname
============================================================
SURINAME - WARNING
 November 15, 1991

The Department of State advises U.S. citizens to exercise caution
while traveling to areas outside the capital city of Paramaribo and
the town of Nieuw Nickerie in western Suriname. U.S. citizens
unfamiliar with the country should avoid unaccompanied travel to the
interior, particularly the road between Zanderij and Apura.
Nighttime travel outside the two major cities should be avoided if
possible. While the situation in the countryside is at present
stable, there is a lack of sufficient police authority over much of
the interior of Suriname to offer assistance in the event of
emergency.

U.S. citizens who travel to Suriname should seek the latest travel
information from the American Embassy. Visitors should register
with the Consular Section of the Embassy at Dr. Sophie Redmondstraat
129, Paramaribo. The Embassy can be reached by telephone at all
hours at the following number: 477-881.

 No. 91-221
