"Well, what's wrong with that?" Philo asked.
"Nothing, really. There is great energy and beauty in the
quality of twos. Of thesis and antithesis, good and evil, action
and repose, matter and spirit and so forth. But I happen to be a
trinitarian. I prefer the more suble and, I feel, more universal
quality of threes. Three modes of physical extension, three phases
of matter, three elemental colors, three aspects of God."
Hanging from a rawhide thong about the friar's neck was a
triangular pendent with an eye in the center. "That pendant," Philo
said. "that's the symbol on the back of our one dollar bills."
"I know," the friar said. "It's significant that you put it on
the back. Caesar, as usual, comes out on front. Even if he looks
        like George Washington."
"Tell me something," Philo said. "Are you still a Christian?"
             "I call myself one."
             "Well, why then---"
The friar fingered the pendant. "You mean, why isn't this a
        crucifix?"
             Philo nodded.
