             INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTOMATIC INSTALLATION
                 OF THE CONTACT TRACKING SYSTEM

The Contact Tracking System (version 3.1) is a powerful and friendly
mailing list manager, allowing addresses, phone numbers, and
miscellaneous information to be stored about customers, clients,
members and friends. Its integrated visual and verbal interface permits
sighted and blind users alike to operate with ease and efficiency.
Further information about the capabilities and operation of CTS is
contained in the files FEATURES.TXT and CTS.TXT.

CTS may be conveniently installed with a batch file that explains what
it will do and asks for confirmation along the way. (If you prefer to
install the software manually, consult the README.TXT file.) To
perform an automatic installation, take the following steps.

1. Ensure that at least 2 megabytes is free on the hard disk labeled C.
The system will be placed in a directory called C:\CTS.

2. Change to the drive and directory containing the CTS distribution
files, including CTS31#1.ZIP, CTS31#2.ZIP, and INSTALL.BAT. For
example, this might be a floppy disk in drive B. It could also be a
directory on a hard disk, such as C:\TEMP. If CTS was distributed on
two 360K disks, then insert either one of the disks in the floppy drive
(usually drive A) and log on to this drive. In this case, the installation
process will prompt for the other disk at the appropriate time.

3. Run the INSTALL.BAT batch file by entering install at the DOS
prompt. For example, your command might look like the following:

B:\> install

The batch file will periodically prompt you to press a key, such as
Enter, to continue. (Speech output may be silenced while waiting for
the next prompt.) If you decide to cancel the installation, press Control-
C and answer Y to confirm this.

4. The installation process will ensure that your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
contains a path statement including a C:\CTS directory, and that your
CONFIG.SYS file contains a files statement having a 51 value or more.
If the installation process needed to change your AUTOEXEC.BAT file,
the original one will be called OLDAUTO.BAT. Similarly, your
original CONFIG.SYS file would be called OLDCONFIG.SYS. These
would be stored in the root directory of your boot drive, usually C:\.
If you decide to restore the previous settings, you may do this by
copying these files to the original names. For example:

copy c:\oldauto.bat c:\autoexec.bat
copy c:\oldconfig.sys c:\config.sys

If you decide to delete the backups, you may do the following:

del c:\oldauto.bat
del c:\oldconfig.sys

5. If either your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS file were
changed, re-boot your computer for certain settings to take effect. Then
from the DOS prompt, enter CTSDEMO or CTS to load the system,
depending on whether you have the demo or full version.

6. When loaded, CTS will take you directly into the configuration
utility in order to create a configuration file. Two help screens will
appear, followed by prompts for various settings. To get to the Main
Menu quickly, just press Enter repeatedly to accept all defaults. You
may configure CTS more particularly at a later time.

7. For miscellaneous, introductory information, consult the
README.TXT file. For complete operating instructions, consult the
CTS.TXT file.
