              INSTRUCTIONS FOR MANUAL INSTALLATION
                 OF THE CONTACT TRACKING SYSTEM

The Contact Tracking System (version 3.1) is produced and
copyrighted by Jamal Mazrui of Access Success. It is a shareware
database management system for keeping track of contacts of
people and companies, and the ongoing status of relationships
with those contacts. A contact database contains address and
phone number information about each contact; a status database
contains dates and descriptions of events in connection with
those contacts. A wide range of operations can be performed on
each record including the ability to create the skeleton of a
letter to a contact and load it into your word processor, address
an envelope, and dial a phone number with your modem. Report
options include the production of mailing labels and a list of
reminders organized chronologically.

The system is written to work well with a speech synthesizer and
screen reader program. It will automatically verbalize relevant
information: saying neither too much nor too little without user
intervention. It is also meant to be visually friendly, however, and need
not be used with speech output.

The Contact Tracking System (CTS) is compressed into two 'ZIP'
files: 'CTS31#1.ZIP' and 'CTS31#2.ZIP'. It will occupy about
2 megabytes of space on a hard drive, not including data you
add. All documentation files are in ASCII text format with a file
extension of '.TXT' (for CTS-specific ones) or '.DOC' (for utility-
related ones). The following is an excerpt from 'FILELIST.TXT':

Documentation files
CTS.TXT -- Documentation for the Contact Tracking System
FEATURES.TXT -- Description of CTS features
FILELIST.TXT -- List of all files in the CTS package
INSTALL.TXT -- Instructions for automatic installation of CTS
README.TXT -- Instructions for manual installation of CTS
REGISTER.TXT -- Printable form to become a registered CTS user
UPGRADE.TXT -- Instructions for upgrading a previous CTS version
COPYON.DOC -- The documentation to the 'COPYON.COM' utility.
SWAPMEM.DOC -- The documentation to the 'SWAPMEM.COM'
utility.

If you already use an earlier version of CTS, consult the
'UPGRADE.TXT' file for information on how to upgrade to this 3.1
version. To perform a new installation automatically, run the batch file,
'INSTALL.BAT', according to the instructions in 'INSTALL.TXT'. To
perform a new installation manually, take the following steps:

1. Create a directory on your hard drive called 'CTS', and copy
the contents of both disks into this directory.

2. Go to the 'CTS' directory and enter the command:
PKUNZIP *.ZIP
to uncompress all files.

3. Depending on whether you have the demo or full version, enter the
following command from the DOS prompt:

CTSDEMO

or

CTS

to execute the batch file which loads the system. Note that CTS
requires the "FILES" statement in your 'CONFIG.SYS file be set to 51
or higher. If it is lower than this, then edit the file (usually called
'C:\CONFIG.SYS') so that it contains the line

FILES=51

Then re-boot your computer so that this new setting takes effect.

4. After loading CTS, press the F1 key at various points in the system
to obtain help on the options available.

5. Read the documentation file called 'CTS.TXT' to learn more
about what the system can do.

6. For increased convenience, add the CTS directory to your path
statement in your 'AUTOEXEC.BAT' batch file. For example, this line
might read:

path=c:\batch;c:\util;c:\dos;c:\wp51;c:\cts;

Like the 'CONFIG.SYS' file, the 'AUTOEXEC.BAT' file generally
requires you to re-boot your computer in order for changes to take
effect. You can then load CTS from any DOS prompt. Otherwise, you
will need to first change to the CTS directory before entering the
'CTSDEMO' or 'CTS' command to load the system.

7. Try using different options of the system with test data.

8. Consult the 'REGISTER.TXT' file for information on how to
register the software, if you find it valuable to you (and have not yet
registered).
