Welcome to AdvantEdge

This demonstration program will give you a sense of what AdvantEdge is like.
The user interface and feature set is largely the same - what's
missing is real scanning and character recognition.

AdvantEdge uses Xerox Imaging System's pioneering Optical Character
Recognition. That recognition has been ported to run on a standard
personal computer, using images provided by one of a variety of
popular scanners. Features include automatic page orientation,
automatic page segmentation, automatic brightness control (with the
HPIIC or HPIIP only), batch scanning, batch recognition, formatting
for over 40 popular word processors and spread sheets, universal
access to third party applications, and a "speak immediately" window.
All of this is packaged in a screen-reader friendly user interface,
with context sensitive help, running under DOS.

AdvantEdge uses a DOS extender technology, giving it easy access to
extended and to virtual memory. It can run on any AT compatible
80386 or 80486 PC. Eight megabytes of memory are recommended.

The scanners supported include those from Xerox Imaging Systems,
the GS-Plus and the SA4-3, and all of the scanners in the Hewlett
Packard family: ScanJet, ScanJet Plus, HP IIP, and HP IIC.

The software has been designed to work with any screen-reader, and
any speech synthesizer.

Xerox Imaging Systems (XIS), based in Peabody, Mass., provides adaptive
technology products for individuals who are blind, visually impaired,
dyslexic, reading disabled, or have other difficulties accessing print.
For nearly two decades, XIS has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to
provide print disabled people with products which increase and
facilitate their independent access to materials in print.
