As far as multisampling is concearned, there is virtually no limitation on GUS.
You can have as many samples as fit in 1MB :-) (This is the greates limitation
of all). Moreover, one sample can't cross 256kB boundary, if it's 16-bit.
That's serious as well. But in principle, you can have each key having it's
own sample, even using the suplied patchmaker. But there is a limitation
in windows driver. You can't have velocity splits, that means other sample
played when you hit the key harder. I'll write a new driver for the GUS once :-)

Has anyone figured out wethers Twelve Tone Systems ``Cakewalk Home Studio''
supports patch caching on the GUS?

Does anybody have any experience using a GUS with Coda Finale 2.2 for
Windows? I'd love to hear any stories that are out there.

Subject: Midisoft upgrades?

Finally got my GUS (v.nice it is too) and I am keen on the upgrade to
Powerchords that is offered. Before I make any decisions on what (if any)
further software to purchase, can anyone tell me if Midisoft offer a
similar upgrade path from the "Session" sequencer to their full "Studio"
version?

Thanks for any help

There are two major drawback to include a reverb in your samples :

- It eats a lot of memory of your GUS ( because the reverbered sound is longer )
- As the playback speed varies when you play different keys, the reverb time will
change across the keyboard making it absolutely unrealistic.

Normally, the ideal would be to have a reverb module whose input is feeded with
your GUS output :)

> Is there any way to add reverb to an instrument with the GUS ?

- A lot of program lets you add reverb to your sounds. The nicer one is - OF COURSE -
that cool editor perl. ( available on your favorite site )

( BTW, does anyone knows the email address of the writer of this huge thing ? )

> I've heard a sound canvas with and without reverb. It's like night and day.

- Often reverb is an easy way to make a boring patch come ( a little bit more ) alive...

Enjoy,

Subject: Using GUS as a HD recorder

I've been trying to use my GUS as a hard disk recorder. The problem is that I
can't get it to output say the guitars and drums while I record the vocals.
Does the GUS have the capability to send one channel of sampled sound to the
output while recording another channel? Are there any nifty programs for
this anywhere?

Anyway, what I ended up doing was using Goldwave to record one track at a time,
using my drum machine to keep on time since I couldn't hear any of the other
tracks. It worked fine after some fiddling, and we got some good stuff down,
but it took one hell of an effort.

Another question: can GusDelay 1.0 be used as a reverb or effects processor
for the GUS itself in Cakewalk 2.0 Win? That would be very nice, but I suppose
its impossible, no?

There's nothing but the knife to live for.
