Subject: Better quality patches

I am please to see a lot of third party patches on various Bulletin
Boards, etc., but there are some I could really use, like at better
quality string ensemble I, alto and tenor sax, etc. Another I could use
is the Chinese Gong (small and large) used in orchestral music. Or how
about finger-snaps? (both solo and group finger snaps. Likewise with
group hand-claps) Gravis promised a new patch set, but I have yet to
see it.....A new set on Compuserve dated February this year seems to be
the same set they put out in March of '93. Can anyone advise where I
might be able to find the patches I seek? Are the ones offered by
Howling Dog good? If you can help, or if you are also into sequencing
20th century classical music, please contact me either through this
digest or directly. Thanks.

Subject: GUS MIDI parameters

I noticed that playmidi has an option to ignore aftertouch but I've
never read anywhere what the GUS MIDI drivers do with aftertouch
messages when they don't ignore them. Do the GUS MIDI drivers respond
to aftertouch (either channel or key) and if so what does it affect in
the patch?

On a similar vein, is there a specification that describes which MIDI
messages (particularly controller messages) the GUS MIDI drivers do
respond to?

RE: Best of Midi collection!

Whoever transcribed the Pet Shop Boys "Go-West" song did a really really
really nice job on it.

I recommend that you all get a copy of it to show off to your friends.. :)

Who *did* assemble that midi, anyway?

Subject: North American FTP sites

What has happened to the North American FTP sites? wuarchive.wustl.edu
claims to have 200 anonymous users at 7:00 a.m. EDT and won't let me in.
archive.orst.edu will let me in but I can't download anything, not even the
00Index. Are these machines down for finals?

On a more positive note, I would like to thank all the musicians that submitted
articles on how they use the GUS. These articles are inspiring me to breakdown
and buy a copy of Power Chords and/or cakewalk. I would like to see a thread
on Midi keyboard recommendations. I am sure there are many of us that would
buy a velocity sensitive MIDI kybd priced under $500. Any recommendations?

Thanx for all the info
carson

I guess these will appear at archive.orst.edu in due course if you
have trouble getting onto klingon...

file acidpat1.zip [GUS]
These two are wavetable, each sample covering 5 semitones.
They work with old and new drivers

hi2 12 samples, repeated notes sound like a lfo driving a filter.
     single beats at 130 bpm.
130vcf 10 samples, 303 type noises, single beats at 130bpm

This is a single big sample at a high sample rate, so it stretches nicely

Also file cthugha3.zip
'An Oscilloscope on acid' sound to light with your pc. Designed with
soundblaster in mind but works ok with SBOS
