                          What is Booter?

Booter v.1.5 is a program that allows a user to boot up DOS in two
configurations. At startup, it will allow 5 seconds for the user to
choose a startup configuration. At the end of these 5 seconds, the
autoexec.bat file will continue normally.

Booter is very useful if you often need to boot up DOS "clean" -- that is,
you need to maximize RAM available to DOS and minimize potential software
conflicts. It eliminates having to edit and 'rem' out your autoexec.bat
and config.sys by allowing two images of your autoexec.bat and
config.sys to coexist on your system.

                          Files included

Booter v.1.5 should be distributed as BOOTER15.ZIP, and should include the
following files:

          BOOTER.EXE The main program
          UPDATE.EXE A DOS configuration updater for booter.exe
REBOOT.COM System rebooter (used by booter.exe)
          README.TXT This file

If your copy does not contain one or more of these files, please delete
your copy and notify the source where you obtained Booter to replace
their copy.

                 Suggested Minimum Requirements

To run booter, you should be on an 8086 or better system, running DOS
5.0. Your CONFIG.SYS file should contain the line:

               SHELL=C:\DOS\COMMAND.COM C:\DOS\ /P

The program may or may not work with lower versions of DOS. There
SHOULD BE no problems running on other DOS versions, but there are no
guarantees. In other words, use at your own risk.

                Installing Booter on your system

To install Booter, copy all the files to your root directory on drive C.
Create your two DOS startup configurations and save them as follows:

                          / AUTO_A.DAT Setup A
             AUTOEXEC.BAT<
                          \ AUTO_B.DAT Setup B

                          / CONFIG_A.DAT Setup A
             CONFIG.SYS <
                          \ CONFIG_B.DAT Setup B

Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT and place the command BOOTER.EXE at the very
beginning of the file.

Special note: Make sure that at the very beginning of the AUTO_A.DAT and
the AUTO_B.DAT files you also put the command BOOTER.EXE in.

                            Using Booter

Reboot your system. When the Booter prompt appears, press A to boot the
system with configuration A, or B to boot DOS with configuration B. If
you do not press any key, DOS will startup with the most recently used
configuration. Pressing the <ESC> key will force Booter to continue.

           Changes in your AUTOEXEC.BAT and/or CONFIG.SYS

If you make changes to your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS, run the program
UPDATE.EXE in your root directory. This program will prompt you as to
whether you want to save the current AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS to the
"A" boot option or the "B" boot option.

                     Registration and other stuff

Booter was created under the shareware concept. You are allowed to use
Booter for 21 days. If you continue to use Booter, you must register
the software. The registration cost is $5.00.

What does your money do? $1.00 of this money will go toward funding for
future programming projects. Programming books and software cost money
and money is what I don't have. I am a college student, and deep into the
RED.

The other $4.00 of this money will be put into an pool. When $4000 is
accumulated (that's only 1000 users), the money will be sent to the
national fund for AIDS Research, along with a list of names and addresses
of those whose money has gone into that $4000. Everybody's dollar does
count when it comes to defeating AIDS. Everytime another 1000 users
register my software, another check goes out to AIDS research. We can
defeat AIDS, as long as we all try and help out -- your money does count.

Those who register will receive the next release of Booter. The next
version will allow up to 10 different boot configurations, and will use
compression methods to eliminate the need for the .DAT files, by putting
all configurations into a single file. It will also have an editor for
the boot configurations. In addition, it will have intelligent booting
-- allowing the system to recognize if the user has selected the same
boot option as currently existing on the system. Booter will also be
more customizable.
