FDLOOP1.PAT

format: Gravis PAT
resolution: 32KHz 16 bit mono
style: techno, 138 BPM

This is a loop i made with Cakewalk pro 3 on my pc.
Other equipment used:
A gravis ultrasound max to playback all the samples
and record the result and sample the various sources:
Roland TR-808 for the hihats, clave and low tom sounds
Roland TR-909 for the rimshot
Boss Percussion synthesizer PC-2 for the kick drum
Boss Hand Clapper HC-2 for the hand clap
Digitech DSP128 for a bit of reverb and chorus

The reason i used samples is that my TR-808 is out of
order (i think it may be the kenton kit...) and i
dont have a TR-909. Also the Boss units require me to
use my Sequential Circuits Drumtraks to trigger them,
which means i have to use my mixer and prevents me
from recording directly the result with the GUS Max.
As i didn't feel like powering up all this equipment
(plus the DAT) each time i play with the sequencer to
come up with new drum patterns, i also sampled the
Boss units.

Why i put it up on ftp? Cause some people are absolutely
sure that only an analog drum machine can pack punch and
groove. I think samples can be used as substitutes and a
half decent sequencer should be at least as easy to use
and give as good results as a drum machine. Draw your own
conclusions. Oh, as a side effect, you get to hear for
yourself if the gus max is suited for the job too...
To really appreciate the sound quality, have a listen
to the WAV version of this file (44KHz 16 bit stereo)
in the archive FDL01WAV.ZIP.

Can you use this sample? For a live performance, no
problem. For a recording, you just have to add somewhere
on the credits:
"Drum loop on (name of the song that uses it) by Francois Dion,

For other uses, please get in touch.

In any case, i'd like to hear from you. This way i will
know what people think of it, and you'll get informed
of new releases if you wish to.

Ciao,
