This is the famous synthesizer "chord" from the original
Dolby THX Surround promo that they used to use at the beginning
of movies that had the feature. (do they still use it today?)

Anyways, I always find the "chord" to be quite triumphant and
it makes a good wall-shaking sound file.

This was taken from a DDD audio-demonstration CD called
"The Digital Domain" (c)1983 Electra 60303-2

This CD contains lots of other fun stuff.

TECHNICAL STUFF :
The file unzipped creates DOLBYTHX.WAV
The file was created directly from the CD, sampled on my spanking new
ATI Stereo-FX card, at a rate of 22,000 Hz, in stereo!

Unfortunately, the "chord" on the CD went from 1 db to 120 db when I
tested it once on a large stereo, and the sound file can only cover a
range of 0-60 db or so. Still, the chord is impressive.

Have fun.

I'm posting the New THX sound here.
The only difference between what was posted before, and this one,
is a 0.5 second piece of silence at the beginning, a more gentle "fade"
at the end, and a 0.5 second silence at the end. Just a little more
palletable!

All modifications were done on an i486/33, 4MB RAM, Windows 3.1 (yuck!
Get OS/2!!), Sound Impressions software, and a Media Vision Pro Audio
Studio sound card.

Enjoy!
Julian

I'm sure this effect could have been produced on the Gravis Ultrasound in
about 1/100th of the size, but at least this is the real thing (even if
it's not in the most effcient format)
It sounds very good using Windows "Goldwave" or "Cool" Try speeding it up
for a more pronounced effect.
