I downloaded the 3.59 drivers from the gravis bbs, and tried to install them.
The install begins, messes with autoexec etc, and then I get a hard
parity error every time.. Anyone else have this problem?

Subject: XG (eXtended General midi)

As I read in a Dutch magazine last weekend it seems that Yamaha
is trying to establish a superset of General Midi. It is called
XG (eXtended General midi). It is not clear if it encompasses
also the Roland General Standard (GS) description. One thing seems
clear. The Roland bankswitching uses CC0 for bankswitching. The
original scheme for Midi calls this the Most Significant byte
and CC32 the least significant byte. As I understand Yamaha uses CC32
for bankswitching (and so uses it AS the least significant byte).

Does anybody know more of the XG standard? I know that more
controllers where defined. And how do XG and GS interfere?

Would be interested to get the specs.
