My Alesis Quadraverb manual suggests the following:

_MIDI for Musicians_, Craig Anderton, AMSCO publications.

_Music Through MIDI_, Micheal Boom, Microsoft Press.

_The Murphy's Law MIDI Book_, Jeff Burger, Alexander Publishing.

_Using MIDI_, Helen Basabona and David Frederick, Alfred Publishing.

_Understanding MIDI I_ and _II_, various authors, Maordian Press.
(Collections or MIDI-oriented articles from _Musician_ magazine.)

Good luck finding one or more of these. If you are using Cakewalk, its
controllers view will give you acess to all the basic MIDI controllers.
For instance, controller 10 is the stereo pan control; values range from
0 to 127. Left is 0, center is 64, and right is, you guessed it, 127.
You can't use negative values with MIDI controllers to my knowledge;
the transmite effective 7-bit data (2^7=128) and therefore have 128
positive positions, 0 to 127.

Unless the ultrasounds midi implementation has been radically improved lately,
these are the only controllers

controller 7- Main volume
controller 10- pan
controller 11- 'Like another volume'? [Does this effect envelopes?]
123 - all notes off
6- pitchbend sensitivity

All the controllers go from 0 to 127. Pitchbend sensitivity is a bit more
complicated to use though, and unfortunately my file detailing what exactly
to do got mangled:

How do I adjust pitchbend sensitivity?
>>Well, I can't be the only GUSser who has discovered the pitch-bending trick,

number of tones for what I wonder??? I guess westside is elsewhere on epas
by now. I dont know who the author of the above was, perhaps they can put
me straight as regards the missing words.

Hi,

I'm looking for docs/books on MIDI composition that has discusses the
MIDI controllers in-depth (or something like that). The reason why is I
want to edit some MIDI files and give it some expression, some emotion
that classical music has an effect on. I understand that there are MIDI
controllers on expression (increasing/decrease the volume), controllers
on slurs (for the violins), and other useful controllers for
trills/tremolo effects, but what controllers are there and how do I
manipulate these controllers to produce the desired effect on my GUS?
(ie. what happens if I put a negative value on this controller, etc...)
Any docs/books or even info from you musicians on MIDI controllers?

Thanks in advance,
-George

Subject: my Power Chords rhythm editor is gone

I tried to use Power Chords tonight and the rhythm editor was gone.
I then brought up the Power Chords demo and saw the rhythm editor
but when I clicked on the icon the icon disappeared and the rhythm
editor disappeared from the demo as well.

Has anybody had this happen and if so what can be done to regain the
rhythm editor? Do I have to reinstall power chords ?

Thanks for any help,

There must be docs on the net somewhere, but I don't know where.
Beware, before you get carried away with the wonderful effects that
these controllers might have, that they are not all supported on the
GUS (or probably on any other single synth). The GUS itself does
not support the controllers directly (indeed it doesn't support
MIDI directly) - it's just very good at its own job, which
is playing waveforms, with looping, and some freq/amplitude
modulation. It's the software which does the rest, and under Windows
you are constrained by which controllers the Windows driver
understands - I don't think we have ever been informed which this
is - we just have to experiment. Under DOS, you have to drive the
card yourself, so its up to you what you do.

This may help others. I got my rhythm editor back. I still don't
know exactly what happened but it seems like Power Chords had
saved my session with the rhythm editor window off screen so when
I used the "windows" menu to put this window on top it still did
not show up. What I did that seems to have fix this was to close
Power Chords and open Power Chords demo. I did a single click on
the rhythm editor icon to get the icon menu and then "maximized"
the window. This brought the window on screen. Then I exited
Power Chords demo and started Power Chords again. The rhythm editor
window was then on screen and usable.

Does Power Chords store configuration info about a session in the
executable or in a file somewhere?

Minor cross-posting action happenin' here. Pardon the redundancy.
I have been frantically trying to find pp3-1 thru pp3-19.zip: these are the

they're at ftp.bla.bla.bla, and it turns out that that site is just mirroring
