Subject: Could anyone inside Gravis detail on OS/2 GUS support?

Hello Gravis.
Thank you for a wonderful card - I see much potential.
Thank you also for advertising, I am happy to see the word
getting out past the Internet circle about this card.
It would help me greatly if someone working on or around the OS/2
drivers for the GUS could tell me (and others) what the capabilities will
be. I was disappointed to find that the windows drivers - albeit
behaved - did not like more than one application accessing the card. I
may not have the current windows drivers, but as mine operate right now,
if an error beep goes off in the middle of a running sound application, the
error sound allocates space in the card's memory for it's beep sfx --
which subsequently redirects that channel already being used by the
running application. The result is a funny sounding say, midi player,
where one of the patches becomes a repeating error beep (Sam Kinison
screaming!) I have since changed my error beep to <none> :(
(Sam Kinison, RIP) Well, I understand windows stinks, and as a result
a generic driver is hard to suit such a bundle of kludges. (I p'shaw
directly at Bill Gates daily.)

                               ANYHOW..

As a programmer, my dream situation for an OS/2 driver would be this: I
would like to see a generic channel allocation scheme where an application
could, say, allocate x number of channels to use for sound. 32 channels
is so many, few applications would need all of them at once - so why NOT
let many applications use the card simultaneously?! And the driver might
even support automatic dynamic loading and unloading of samples to keep
the card as usable as possible. This would make programming SO easy. The
only usage barrier an application might bump up against would then be
amount (or lack of) RAM on the card. The OS's use of the GUS would, of
course, need to conform to the same rules as any other app. As soon as I
get a big hard drive, I will be upgrading to OS/2 - GOODbye windows!
Thanks again, you guys are great.

I dunno either, but it would be cool to write a library using the SDK. I
think it would be cool if I wrote a library to make it public domain.
That would really boost the number GUS native programs! Are you a
programmer? Do you want to help write one? Anyone else? It can't be
THAT hard to do... ST3 comes with a tech file anyways... I was thinking
maybe in mid- January of starting programming.
