ANASYN3 - Advanced Gravis Ultrasound patch set

(C) 1993 Copyright IdMEDIA and Francois Dion

Description
===========

ANASYN3 is the third patch set of the ANASYN serie. ANASYN stands for
ANAlog SYNthesiser, and so, this entire serie of patch set are computer
generated or sampled waveforms of analog synths. This archive (ANASYN3)
contains 12 patches that you have to put in the same directory as the patches
you already have (normally \ultrasnd\midi) but you could also put them in a
custom patches directory (ex: ultrasnd\custom) if you type the path in the
.cfg. In the ANASYN3.ZIP archive you should have:

Directory of B:\

plus the text you are presently reading, called ANASYN1.TXT. If a file is
missing or is not of this length, please ask the person you got it from
to erase the archive and get the correct version from one of the
official distribution points (see end of file).

ANASYN10.PAT is a straight sawtooth waveform from a Roland HS-60,
distorted a little from unmatched impedences. This would benefit from
multi-layering...

ANASYN11.PAT is a computer generated waveform which is very similar
to what one can make on a Roland HS-60 or Juno-106. It is ANASYN1.PAT
corrected and updated to the patch format 1.10. It vaguely ressembles an
harpsicord.

ANASYN12.PAT is the same waveform as in ANASYN11.PAT but a vibrato
(with LFO) is added for that "glider" effect. It is ANASYN2.PAT corrected
and updated to the patch format 1.10.

ANASYN13.PAT is again the same waveform as in the two others, but
the enveloppe, loop points and LFO rate are modified. This sounds quite
different from the other two. It is ANASYN3.PAT corrected and updated to the
patch format 1.10. It has a synth cut-bass feeling.

ANASYN11-13 are to demonstrate some basic effects that can be achieved
with a very small sample. Since they only take 641 bytes each, they are
quite useful, even if they have inconsistencies. They are however
available from C0 to B8 in case one of these notes would be needed. (There
are some very special effects created in the high octaves).

ANASYN14.PAT is a more complex instrument made from a sampled ARP
Odissey. Again, C0-B6 available, but the useful range is smaller, and the
really techno sound is in the lower range. It is ANASYN4.PAT corrected and
updated to the patch format 1.10.

ARP_RESO.PAT is a beautiful arpegged sound, with resonance to the
filter. It has a feeling of an Odyssey, but is in fact generated with Csound,
based on the "musical orgs" (preset 84) on the SCI Six-trak.

ODISSEY1.PAT is a better version of ANASYN14.PAT. It is based on the
same sample of the ARP Odissey analog synth.

PROPHET1.PAT is the "brass" sound of the SCI Prophet 5. It is similar
to the Six-trak "brass 1" also. I found this on an EPS disk, and was named
Mess prft (sic). Also on this disk was the "wool strings" sound of the SCI
Prophet 5 (PROPHET2.PAT) and the "sweep" sound too (PROPHET3.PAT). These
patches feature complex envelopes, multisamples and vibrato. I have tried to
ameliorate the loop points, but with these samples it is hard to do a better
job. When i get my hands on a real Prophet, i will probably redo these.

SOLINA1.PAT is a "string sound" from the ARP Solina IV String ensemble
analog synth. It is not looped and has a very limited range, but still better
than nothing, right? > 64Kb wavesample would have helped A LOT.

TUBULAR.PAT is a weird "wind tube" sound that i just cant put a name
on. I was told that this comes from a vintage analog synth, but i have a
hard time believing it... However since it could be analog, i have put it in
the ANASYN serie.

What's next
===========

ANASYN4 is already under way. I'll stop the ANASYN serie when people
will be feed up with analog synths, or when i'll be feed up of making them.

In parallel i'll be doing a PERCS patch serie (percussive sounds) and
a REAL patch serie (real instruments).

The future
==========

This patch set is released to the GUS community to try out and is
free. You can however send me any contributions ( postcards, money,
floppies, beers, cars =) ) to keep me motivated in developping new patches
(and applications) for the GUS community. A big THANK YOU to people who
have sent me notes of appreciation (be it for patches, tutorials, articles,
programs, etc...) and also a special thanks to the beta testers:
