MIDs from BESTMID2.ZIP -- reworked and put into BESTFIX2.ZIP
(by jimb -- come on by the #gus channel on IRC)

Notes on the fixes made in the .ZIP

Many fixes such as chans=1 may only affect Windows players.

PLAYMIDI will use default (piano) wherever 'no patches'
fix was made -- sometimes it even sounds OK such as with
CONCERTO.MID, but the actual instruments are not being used
in these cases (except where piano happens to be the right patch)
Any of these 'no patches' channels will be silent under
Windows players unless you manually load a patch.

All fixes for 'chans=1' correct a more subtle problem since the
MID might sound OK without the fix, but you may not get the full range
of notes, instruments and effects that were intended.
Depends somewhat on how many common simultaneous notes
might play between channels and if any dissimilar instruments
were assigned (one would block out the others), plus any
conflicting/cancelling channel controller changes that exist.
All in all, 'chans=1' is a 'bad thing'.

MIDs with no patches assigned are not 'wrong' -- they
were probably originally made to drive keyboards or other
MIDI devices that had patches assigned manually.

Once in a while, an author will dedicate one track to assign all the
patch changes to the other channels. In these cases it may look like
many channels have no patches assigned but they really do -- the commands
are just contained in a single track. I did not see any of these types of
sequences in this batch, but if you start hacking MIDs, check for this
before you start fixing what appear to be missing patches.
