Subject: Bosendorfer Piano Patch

Several people have mentioned the piano, guitar, trumpet, and violin samples
available via ftp from cecelia.media.mit.edu:/pub/Csound/Samples/*. Since I
haven't seen anyone post patches made from these samples, I thought I would
go ahead and submit one based on the Bosendorfer sample.

I have put the resulting 'bosen_l.zip' file over on epas:submit. This patch
was made using "Patch Maker Lite". It was my intent to make a large patch in
an attempt to produce the best sounding solo piano given the constraints of
the original recording, GUS hardware, and the lack of envelope control in
"Patch Maker Lite".

This patch will nearly fill the entire 1M of GUS memory. Thus it is useful
only for piano solos and can not replace the existing piano patches. (I am
currently working on a small Bosendorfer sample.)

Comments are welcome. Thanks to Phat Tran for his help.

Regarding the previous queries: Yes, Virginia, there is
a GUSJAM. Just check out the following files on our
favorite FTP site (archive.epas.utoronto.ca):

pub/pc/ultrasound/submit/gjblues1.zip

pub/pc/ultrasound/sound/misc/paidgj2.zip

Download them, add to them, and repost them with an
updated number (i.e. gjblues2 or paidgj3).

I'm also looking for anyone else to start another. I
have PowerChords Pro now, so I can even read those
files.

Simple! Just send a contoller 0 message to the GUS with a value
equal to the bank to which you want to switch. To be perfectly
consistant, you should follow this with a contoller 32 message with
a value of 0. Then send your patch change. Good midi practice is
to follow this with a switch back to bank 0 so that if your
song stops in the middle and you start a new song the patch will be
loaded from the correct bank. Here's an example. Let's say you have
a strident trumpet sound that you have assigned to bank 6 and patch
number 56 (the normal trumpet patch number). The messages in your
sequencer (Winjammr, Cakewalk, studio, etc.) would be as follows:

TIME EVENT VALUE
01:01:001	Control Change 0	6
01:01:002	Control Change 32	0
01:01:003	Patch Change 56
01:01:004	Control Change 0	0
01:01:005	Control Change 32	0

That's all there is to it! And it works on the GUS just the same way
as it works on a SoundCanvas, a GSMega, a TG100, a 05R/W, etc.!!
