Subject: GUS hardware specs

Hi
Is there a doc on the GUS hardware? As in, lists of regs I can play with,
cache's, and a rundown of things that are setable withing the registers.
I guess the title says it all. I am looking for a hardware spec of the
gus. Can I buy this? Is it get-able from Gravis? purchesable? ftp'able?

Thanks :)
Marek

@1> In the GUS Max Fax that was posted to these digests it said that
@1> the GUS Max has a "DDSP - Dedicated Digital Sound Processor :
@1> More powerful than general purpose DSPs."

@1> I wonder if anybody who is reading this digest has any further
@1> information on what this thing really is. So is it really a
@1> digital signal processor that could be programmed for example
@1> to recognize speech, adjust the bass and treble etc. as I think
@1> the ASP in the SB16s does?
Actually, my guess is that this IS the GF1 chip. After all, it IS
a digital sound processor, dedicated entirely to wavetable synthesis.

.. Do what you will with this tagline, just don't bother me about it!

Why not ? You can have as many "external" patches as your CPU is able to
or DMA is able to deliver to GUS's memory in real time. I think one or two
patches wouldn't be such a great problem for 386DX/40. One has only to be smart
enough and find a way how to implement loops and envelopes. This is generally
a good idea. You can have 1MB Piano patch in main memory still having the GUS's
memory free. I have to think about this seriously. I'll try to write a new
Windows MIDI driver. It will support this feature :-)

Subject: Sample rate conversion

Does anyone know what the best program for sample rate conversions is ?
By a good program I mean some other than linear interpolation, let's say
B-splines or whatever is used in sound processing. Does Csound do these
things ?
