So Phat, are you saying that the normal bank changing commands to the drivers
would work if only the patch in the alternate bank was loaded? Also, it would
be nice if AG would set up the patch manager to be able to deal with it.

Which reminds me...I wonder if AG would consider releasing sources for any of
their stuff like drivers and patch manager? They would probably get a lot of
work done for themselves by people on the net! I don't know if they consider
any of the algorithms manifested in the s/w proprietary, but I could imagine
them releasing proprietary stuff as objects. I would think the most interesting
things for us net-workers to play with would be the front-end MIDI-parsing stuff
in the drivers (plus patch mgr), not the part that twiddles the GUS registers.

Thanks,

Burns

There isnt any quantisation noise or hiss that of the sort might come
from a analogue to digital converter in samples made from a CSound
software synth program.

I use CSound stuff to make patches quite a lot, both as a sound source and as
a sample processor. Recently I have been trying to improve my acidbassline
303 simulator, have used some extreme flanging effects and written a
sample enhancer that works :) like one of those exciters that have been
discussed on the gus-music list a bit lately.

It is very powerful, but it is also a very complex system. To use it
effectively, learning the orchestra writing language is a must. This part of
Csound alone has a 30 page manual.

The only stuff that I've done with CSound that is publicly available
at the moment online is two of the patches in hugepats.zip

Subject: Locking to sync recorded on tape

Apologies if this is a FAQ, but I can't find anything about it in any of
the FAQs I've seen: I am interested in the use of the midi sync signal
recorded on (say) a 4 track to lock a sequencer. Is this possible with
PowerChords or Recording Session as supplied with the GUS? (I don't have
my GUS yet). Is it purely a function of the sequencer or does the GUS
hardware into the picture (I assume at that a midi adapter is obviously
required - does it need to be special in any way?). I would like to
understand this as much as possible, but my bottom line question is:

If I record the midi sync signal from the GUS (assuming it generates one)
can I later record midi sequences from something like Recording Session
and have them correctly lock to the sync?

Thanks for any help.

Subject: MIDI Sampler software for GUS?

I am a drummer and own a Roland TD7 compact drum system (drum to MIDI conversion plus ROM samples). I would like to extend my setup with sampling features.
The GUS (MAX) seems to be a very serious candidate, but I am not sure whether
the required software is available.
At least the following functions are required: sampling, sample editing,
patch creation, patch switching. The patch (program) switching should be
in response to MIDI program change messages, generated by the TD7.

Ideally, these functions should be integrated in a single program, but a
modular setup (using e.g. PatchMaker Lite) is also acceptable.
DOS applications are preferred (at least for the playback part of the
software) since it would open the possibility to buy a dedicated
old-timer AT for use on stage.
Can someone help me out? Can I do this with existing (sequencer?) software or
is some additional programming required? Are there limitations that I'm not
aware of? I own a 40MHz 386, 4 Mb Ram, running Windows 3.1.

Another question. What about the GUS MAX? Is it available yet in the US?
I didn't see any anouncements in the Netherlands yet. If available, can
someone give me a mail order adress?

Thanx
