A Tutorial on using the Win10 mail, calendar, and people apps; also, using the win10 Edge browser and Cortana results with NVDA Only

The win 10 mail and calendar apps:
The win10 mail, calendar, and people apps are very accessible using JAWS or NVDA.
 First, the mail app.
First, type mail in the search area of win10, and press enter on the mail app. Now, you need to tab to the settings button, and press enter. Then, you will have a choice to import an account. The contacts, emails, everything associated with that account will import into the win 10 mail app if your accounts are IMAP accounts. Warning: They must be IMAP accounts. I am still not sure about POP accounts, so as far as we are concerned, we will just say that they must be IMAP accounts. Some Internet service providers cannot be imported into the win 10 mail app directly. When you import an existing account, there is a list of accounts like Gmail, for example, that you must select from in order to import that account. Not all providers are in that list. If it is not, just import your Internet Service Provider account into a Gmail account, for example first. Then, you can import that Gmail account into the win 10 app. When you tab to settings and press enter, there is a choice to import an account. Now, with JAWS, to read a message in the mail app, you have to press CTRL+R and then read the message line by line or any other way you want. press escape when you are done and enter on discard. Why this:
When you press CTRL+R to read the message, you are actually clicking on the reply button, but you are not typing a reply. Of course, you can type a reply if you want. If you type a reply, then you just press enter after you are done and you will be back to the list of messages. If you do not press CTRL+R to read the message, you can still read the message word by word by holding the CTRL and tapping the arrow keys.
Now, for the to: edit to self populate with contacts that you can down arrow to and enter on, you have to turn on Narrator while JAWS is loaded and Narrator will quiet JAWS way down, because Narrator uses audio ducking like NVDA. Now, type a few letters, and down arrow to the contact you want and press enter, and the email address will show up in the to: edit field. Now, turn Narrator right off and tab to the subject field and finish up with JAWS the way you started. If you do not want to turn on Narrator to populate the to: edit, You can simply type in the entire email address, and tab to the subject edit. Warning, do not try to read the email address that is there letter by letter, or you will erase the address and you will have to type it all over again. That is it for JAWS in terms of work arounds for the win 10 mail app.
NVDA, to read the message, hold down the shift and press the arrow keys to read the message. This is actually selecting the text in the message, but this is the only way you can hear the message read to you. You have to do this, or NVDA will read nothing in the message field. For the self populating of the to: edit, just turn on Narrator for this one step just like you do with JAWS. In fact, you can do everything with the win 10 mail app with Narrator if you want. I prefer JAWS the best, but Narrator and NVDA access it as well.
Now, for the Calendar app in win 10.
This is very accessible with JAWS and NVDA. Just type calendar in the search edit field and press enter on the win 10 calendar app. When it is open, tab three times and you will land on days of the week and dates. Now, Very Important, Press ALT+CTRL+4 on the numbers row to put in month view. There is a very good reason for this step. If you put the calendar in month view, you can right and left arrow to go forward through the month or backward through the month. Also, this is huge, you can press the up and down arrows to navigate week by week. For example, if you are on the first of the month, if you down arrow, you will go to the 8th of the month. In other words, you can navigate a week at a time if you down and up arrow. The left and right arrow is just to navigate day by day. Now, JAWS or NVDA will tell you how many events have been scheduled for that day. To get to the events scheduled for that day, tab. First tab gets you to the first event, and then you enter. Now, after you enter on that event, you can use normal reading commands to read what you scheduled, what time it is, and so on. To get out of that event, just press escape, and you will be back on the days and dates. To schedule an event on a certain day, press enter on the day, and you will be in a dialog where you can type what you will be doing, the time of the event, who you will invite, and so on. When you are done, just press the done button and your event will be scheduled on that day. You will be able to tab to that event and read everything about it.
So, that is how you use the calendar with NVDA and JAWS. Now, for the people app, just type people in the search edit field, and enter on the win 10 people app.
The only time you need to use this app is to read all of the information about a contact like phone number and so on. Tab three or four times, and you will be on a list of the letters of the alphabet. Arrow down to which letter your contact starts with, and shift+tab back to the list of contacts that start with that letter. Just arrow until you find the contact you want, and press enter and you will be able to access all of the information for that contact. The last apps I will discuss is the win 10 Edge browser and Cortana. Warning, do not make Edge your default browser. It is not ready for prime time yet, but it is pretty accessible with NVDA only. Now, using NVDA, you cannot get to the menus by pressing the alt key and all of that. You have to use all of the commands for object navigation. You have to find the different buttons with the review cursor and press SHIFT+NVDA+M if you are on a laptop. There is a desktop command to do the same thing, to route the mouse pointer to the review cursor. Again, you must find the button with the review cursor, and route the mouse to the place of the review cursor and click with your computer mouse or use the NVDA commands to do a left mouse click. Then, you can tab around and make changes to your settings. This is the only way you can use the Edge browser, but listen, listen, you can indeed use the Edge browser. I am telling you that there is a way to use Edge. Dont just throw up your hands and say that Edge is totally off limits. Here is what I can do with Edge already:
I can bring up Google.com as my home page, I can type in searches or a particular web address and navigate that page with H for heading, E for edit box, and so on. I can click on links by pressing enter, and open links in another tab by pressing CTRL+enter. Warning, when you are reading an article on a web page, it reads a lot better if you use object navigation commands instead of the normal brows commands. You must do that or you will be asking why the document is not reading correctly. I can read my favorites, work with my history list, and much more. Pretty much all of the basics can be accessed in Edge. But, But, I have warned you that you must do the following to access the MS win 10 Edge browser: you must use NVDA 2016.1. You Must have the NVDA add on win 10 app essentials that is written by Joseph lee. That must be installed as an add on to NVDA. Also, you must use Object navigation with the review cursor and route the mouse to the review cursor and click on settings, for example. The Mail, calendar, and people apps, can be easily accessed by anyone with JAWS, NVDA, or Narrator. The Edge browser is for techies who want to really experiment, because you must use NVDA and many key commands and have that add on. I have told you, though how to use the Edge browser. Lastly, Cortana can do much more than Siri on an iPhone. You just press Windows+C and ask her a question, or tell her to do something. Now, she will only tell you a small part of her entire answer to questions. Here is where using NVDA with the Edge browser comes in as well. You can read the results that Cortana gives you by simply using the key commands to read with NVDA. You can ask Cortana questions like: What is the latest news, What is the weather and say any city, She can do simple math and advanced math. She will tell you your computer status, You can ask her anything about your computer like disc storage and she will answer you with her voice, but much more of the answer will be written out in edge to read with NVDA. Cortana will give you the latest sports scores, tell you what movies are playing in your area code and on and on. JAWS cannot read these written results from Cortana yet, because Cortana uses Edge to give her complete answer. Use cortana, though, just to hear her oral answers to many questions. Cortana can do so much for you by just hearing her answers. Also, You can tell her, for example, to add an event to your calendar, and I have already told you how to use the calendar. That is all to using many of the apps in win10 already.
