This includes Keynote Gold SA, PC, VC, and Companion. Both single
and multiple language versions are supported. For details see the
KEYNOTE.TXT file in the root directory on this disk.

NOTE: During the Open Book installation program, you will be asked
to select your access device. If you are installing a Keynote Gold
synthesizer, do NOT select access device number 3 ("Keynote Gold SA
or PC"). You should select access device number 4 ("Other"), and
enter the driver name KEYNOTE when prompted.

2.21 Change Notes: Doubletalk and compatibles:

Version 2.21 contains correctly named drivers for all versions of
Doubletalk and Doubltalk compatible speech synthesizers.

2.21 Change Notes: Dolphin Speech Synthesizer - all models:

Version 2.21 corrects the "dictionarypath=" command in APOLLO2.INI
for Open Book, version 2.2. It also changes the speeds up the voice
rates, from 3 to 5.

If you want to use a Dolphin speech synthesizer
with Atlas Speaks you will have to edit the APOLLO2.INI file that

Change the "dictionarypath=" command line. Details are given the
APOLLO2.INI file.

If you have Both Atlas Speaks and Open Book you will have to change

IMPORTANT NOTES

Based on feedback from our users we have changed directory names
for of some of the drivers. This is important for user's of An Open
Book, the name of the directory is the name of the driver. Make sure
that you check the name before you install.

ARTIC 215: The Artic 215 driver requires the SONIX-TTS module to
be installed and running.

TextAssist: The TextAssist driver really requires a 66 MHz 486 class PC
to run. It will work on slower machines but with noticable pauses
while talking. There also maybe problems running TextAssist with
scanners and modems on a slower PC. DECtalk PC and DECtalk Express each
come with a fast 80186 processor and 1 Mega Bytes of dedicated memory. This
is why their performance is very good. TextAssist is dependent upon
your PC's CPU for processing most of the speech and a slow PC will
make the speech slow.

Multivoice: The driver for the Children's Hospital portable
DECtalk and MultiVoice DECtalk has problems with indexing and will exhibit a
buffer over-flow problem. When starting and stopping speech while
reading a document sometimes the indexing will be off plus or minus one word. The
buffer overflow problem exhibits itself if you are in a menu and keep a
direction key depressed and fill up the keyboard buffer
until your PC beeps; under some conditions you will hear the
speech synthesizer speak a series of control codes instead of words. The
speech synthesizer will recover and start working normally. These are
not bugs in the driver they are bugs in the version 2 and version 3
releases of DECtalk which is found in both of the Children's Hospital
versions of DECtalk. These bugs were fixed in the version 4.1C or later of
DECtalk which is only found in DECtalk PC and DECtalk Express. Due to the
these word indexing limitations, speech quality was degraded
slightly (there are very small pauses between words) in this
driver to get improved response when stopping and starting
speech and to be able to accurately highlight the word on the
screen as it is spoken.

DoubleTalk Spanish: To configure your DoubleTalk speech
synthesizer to speak spanish please see the file DUBLTALK.TXT found in the
root directory of this disk.

Infovox Version 3.5 or later: Please chech the INFOVOX.TXT or the
README.AM file in the INFO37AM or INFO37SP directories for
instructions on adding the appropriate driver to CONFIG.SYS and
for information on supporting additional language ROMs.
