You can use the supplied EDIT environment with the MS-DOS EDIT
program version 5.0 or greater and Vocal-Eyes 3.0.

With autoloading enabled, which is the default, Vocal-Eyes will
automatically load the EDIT.SET file. If you have autoloading
disabled, you will need to issue the following command right
before you are ready to load EDIT.

                      VE /F0EDIT

This will load the .SET file. At this point, start up EDIT with
the following command:

                               EDIT

As you can see, the autoloading approach is simpler.

You now have a talking version of EDIT. Remember, you can change
any of the default values supplied here. This is simply meant to
get you started. The
following commands can be used:

Many of the standard read hot keys work as described in the
manual. For example, CTRL-B for previous character, CTRL-C for
current character and CTRL-D for next character. The same is
true for word, line, and paragraph.

CONTROL-S This will read your entire work area. This
               includes lines THREE through TWENTY-FOUR.
CONTROL-R This will read your entire document from the
cursor position to the end of the document. This
is the Read To End hot key.
CONTROL-M This will read the highlighted menu item.
CONTROL-I This will read the instructions on line
               twenty-five.

The fast review key has been changed from ALT to SCROLL-LOCK to
avoid a conflict with the menu key in EDIT.

If you don't care for the particular placement of a hot key or
you don't like what a particular cursoring key is speaking, feel
free to change them to your liking.

The EDIT.SET file calls the EDITBOX.SET file when a box appears
on the screen. Keep this in mind as you make changes. For
example, if you wish to change the speech rate, you will probably
wish to change it for both .SET files.

Feel free to use the utility SET2TEXT to convert the supplied
.SET files into a readable ASCII text file. This will allow you
to see the default settings.
