Readme file for the Vocal-eyes Manual Reading program

Installing VE Help

To install VE Help, simply copy the file VEHELP.EXE to either
your Vocal-eyes subdirectory, or any other directory that is
included in the path statement of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. The
configuration SET file included with this program is optional and
can be copied into your VE directory as well. For example, if
these two files are located on your floppy drive (A:), and you want
to copy the files to your hard drive (C:) to your Vocal-eyes
directory, you would type the following at the Dos prompt:

COPY A:\VEHELP.EXE C:\SPEECH <enter>
COPY A:\VEHELP.SET C:\SPEECH <enter>

In order for VEHelp to run properly the following conditions
must be met:

1. The Vocal-eyes documentation files must be located in their
default directory (c:\SPEECH\MANUAL\). If you have problems
running VE Help, check to be sure those files are located in
this directory.

2. The program depends on the documentation files being listed in
their default chronological order. The chances of the files not
being in this order are very slim, but if you are having trouble
with the program, this is also something to double check. The
default order should look like this:

3. Finally, the executable file (VEHELP.EXE) must be in a pathed
directory i.e. included in the PATH= statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT
file. If it is not, you will not be able to run the program from
any where other than the directory in which the executable file is
located.

Running VE Help

To run VE Help, type "VEHELP" <enter> at the Dos prompt. A
menu should appear listing the various topics of the manual. Use
the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to the topic your
interested in and press enter. The appropriate file will then be loaded
and displayed on the screen. While viewing the file, you can use
Page Down to display the next screen, Page Up to go back to the
previous screen, HOME to jump to the top of the file, or ESCAPE to
stop viewing. After you are done viewing a topic, you are
automatically taken back to the topics menu.

You'll notice that the last choice on the topics menu says,
"Appendix". If you select this choice by pressing enter, a sub
menu will pop up. This sub menu contains the ten appendix
topics in the manual. Use the arrow keys just as you did before to
view any of the appendixes, or select the final choice on the sub
menu, to return to the main menu. Pressing ESCAPE while in the
menu will terminate the program.
